Fun and laughter in Portaferry!

This Saturday sees the beginning of free weekend entertainment throughout August in Portaferry.

Captain Morgan, a gentleman explorer who has travelled far and wide learning new skills, telling tall tales and picking up a sea shanty or two. A show of juggling, comedy and danger not to be missed - you may even learn a thing or two!

Every Saturrday and Sunday from 3pm-5pm enjoy fishy fun street theatre; discover all kinds of marine life at the Exploris Discover Tank and visit local exhibitions in Portaferry Visitor Information Centre.

The fun starts on Saturday 1 August with the arrival of Captain Morgan, a gentleman explorer who has travelled far and wide learning new skills, telling tall tales and picking up a sea shanty or two. On his adventures he has sailed with Pirates, met Vikings, learnt the ways of the Fakir and escaped from a French hospital – all the while retaining his gentlemanly sensibility.

A show of juggling, comedy and danger not to be missed – you may even learn a thing or two!

Then on Sunday look out for Frogman roaming through the village, a surreal comedy character, once seen never forgotten! On both days the Exploris Discovery Tank, delivered in association with Strangford Lough and Lecale Partnership, will be situated outside Exploris Aquarium.

Get up close to lots of wee beasties, meet shore crabs and urchins and find out how the butterfish got its name. Learn how marine creatures live in a rocky pool and see how many you can spot as they hide in the seaweed and rocks.

Expert guides will be on hand to help you discover our marvellous marine life.

Portaferry Visitor Information Centre will be host to a number of fascinating exhibitions during the month, so be sure to pop in and take a look.

Mayor of Ards and North Down, Alderman Alan Graham said: “There is lots of entertainment to enjoy in Portaferry this Saturday and Sunday and during each weekend in August.  Take the opportunity to bring the family and enjoy the fun.  While in the area you can also enjoy breath-taking views and walks, treat yourself to excellent fish and chips and ice cream or call into a local restaurant, pub or café.”
