Trina Hobson returns to the ArtisAnn Gallery with an amazing new show after successful international exhibitions and commissions.

Taken from the Latin ‘to repent’, a pentimento is an underlying trace of a previous painting on a canvas. These layers tell of the process and evolution of a painting.

Following her graduation in 2016, Trina received the Royal Ulster Academy Award for Outstanding Student and The John and Rachel Turner Bursary for Outstanding Student.

She was invited to exhibit at the 2016 Royal Ulster Academy annual exhibition and recently exhibited at the Boyle Arts Festival and the prestigious RHA in Dublin.

In 2018 she won the RUA Conor Prize for a figurative work in any media, followed by several significant commissions, including a commission for the Philosophy by Postcard, organised by the University of Liverpool, in celebration of the centenary of Iris Murdoch's birth.

In 2019 she had a solo show at the Irish Arts Centre in New York.

For this exhibition, Trina highlights a traditional method of working, with its struggle of repositioning, adjusting, adding to and scraping off, at a time when paintings produced through tracing and projections are becoming more common due to advances in technology.

This exhibition runs at the ArtisAnn Gallery, 70 Bloomfield Avenue, Belfast from

Tuesday 30th June to Saturday 29th August

The exhibition will be online from the same date
