10 Weeks, 10 Elections
64 Killycomain Drive
With the 2020 presidential election as a backdrop, this 10-week online course of two-hour lectures looks at ten of the most notable contests for the office of president, beginning with that between two of America’s Founding Fathers – John Adams and Thomas Jefferson – in 1800 and including the election that brought on the Civil War (1860), Teddy Roosevelt’s strong third-party campaign in 1912 and Franklin Roosevelt’s bid for an unprecedented third term in office in 1940. There will also be particular focus on the presidential elections of the 1960s – the era of the Kennedys, Nixon and LBJ.
