Lisa Ballard is a fine artist, primarily known for her emotive paintings of landscapes.

This exhibition of new paintings captures the beauty and amazing colours of the sky.

Since graduating in 2003, she has received many prestigious awards, including the President’s Prize at the Royal Ulster Academy and the Kilkenny Art Gallery Prize. Her work is held in many private and public collections, including by the Arts Council of Northern Ireland and the Irish Office of Public Works.

Lisa explains her art, sayings “I am drawn to the temporal in the landscape, experiences such as the constantly changing light, the seasons, waiting for a grey sky to clear or the fleeting light of dawn and twilight. I try to capture how it is to be in that moment and place.”

Lisa uses landscape to explore her obsession with colour and light, in particular the juxtaposition of colours and how they affect each other.  Often leaning towards abstraction, Lisa looks beyond the landscape itself, creating powerful images that reflect the temporal and fleeting nature of her experience in that place.

Inspired by the landscape that surrounds her home in Ireland, Lisa has also found traveling to be invaluable in her personal exploration of painting as a medium, supplying new ideas, the always-changing colours, scale and light so vividly different to that in Ireland.  The light, both in bright and washed-out colours, inspire Lisa to capture a moment, whether it is dappled light, shadows on a wall, or a grand vista, wanting her to share these moments with the viewer. She amalgamates images to create a new landscape, representing the way in which memories often become blurred in life, the final images evoking a sense of time and place.  Focusing on the creative artistic process, Lisa uses painterly brush marks that encourage an organic response to every colour and layer she applies.  She also incorporates washes, flat spray paint, and scratches, to allow the painting to evolve.
