{"id":11345,"date":"2016-05-03T09:09:06","date_gmt":"2016-05-03T08:09:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/whatsonni.com\/news\/?p=11345"},"modified":"2016-05-03T09:09:06","modified_gmt":"2016-05-03T08:09:06","slug":"tourism-ireland-unveils-second-game-of-thrones%c2%ae-door","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/whatsonni.com\/news\/2016\/05\/tourism-ireland-unveils-second-game-of-thrones%c2%ae-door\/","title":{"rendered":"Tourism Ireland unveils second Game of Thrones\u00ae door"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1><strong>~ Tourism Ireland\u2019s latest Game of Thrones<\/strong>\u00ae<strong> <\/strong><strong>campaign is showcasing Northern Ireland to millions of fans worldwide ~<\/strong><\/h1>\n<p><strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/whatsonni.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/PicMonkey-Collage.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-large wp-image-11346\" title=\"PicMonkey Collage\" src=\"https:\/\/whatsonni.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/PicMonkey-Collage-1024x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"430\" height=\"430\" \/><\/a>3 May 2016<\/strong> \u2013 Episode two of the long-awaited sixth season of Game of Thrones\u00ae aired last night (Monday, 2 May) and Tourism Ireland unveiled its second \u2018Door of Thrones\u2019 \u2013 this time in Fiddler\u2019s Green bar and B&amp;B in Portaferry, Co Down.<\/p>\n<p>The door is part of Tourism Ireland\u2019s latest Game of Thrones\u00ae campaign, created in partnership with HBO, which is showcasing Northern Ireland to millions of the show\u2019s fans worldwide.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this year, the Dark Hedges \u2013 the Game of Thrones\u00ae filming location known to the people of Westeros as the Kingsroad \u2013 were battered by Storm Gertrude. Tourism Ireland saved the trees that fell that day, to turn them into a piece of Game of Thrones\u00ae history for fans \u2013 creating 10 intricately carved doors, each one telling the story of the latest episode in season six.<\/p>\n<p>The doors are being unveiled by Tourism Ireland each week as season six unfolds, in pubs and other venues near Game of Thrones\u00ae filming locations across Northern Ireland \u2013 so, by the end of this season, we\u2019ll have a brand new Game of Thrones\u00ae trail linking the major filming locations around Northern Ireland. The first door, from episode one, is hanging in The Cuan guest inn in Strangford.<\/p>\n<p>Tourism Ireland has also unveiled its second \u2013 limited edition \u2013 Game of Thrones\u00ae stamp, another element of its new campaign.<\/p>\n<p>Niall Gibbons, CEO of Tourism Ireland, said: <strong><em>\u201cWe are delighted to continue our partnership with HBO in 2016, to highlight Northern Ireland \u2013 through the exciting events of Game of Thrones<\/em><\/strong><strong><em>\u00ae<\/em><\/strong><strong><em> \u2013 on the global stage. TV and film are recognised as strong influencers on travellers everywhere and the<\/em><\/strong><strong><em> stellar popularity of Game of Thrones<\/em><\/strong><strong><em>\u00ae<\/em><\/strong><strong><em> is a fantastic opportunity for us to promote Northern Ireland to a huge audience of potential visitors. <\/em><\/strong><strong><em>Our latest campaign is a fun and innovative way to bring the destination to the attention of Game of Thrones<\/em><\/strong><strong><em>\u00ae<\/em><\/strong><strong><em> fans everywhere \u2013 they will see our ads, spiking their curiosity about the landscapes and locations featured in the series and inspiring them to come and explore them for themselves.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Each week, Tourism Ireland is releasing a mixture of short films and images from the campaign on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube in ten markets \u2013 including Great Britain, the United States, Canada, Australia, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, the Netherlands and Scandinavia. It is building on the success of Tourism Ireland\u2019s previous Game of Thrones\u00ae campaigns, which generated about five million clicks, comments and shares and reached about 100 million fans across the world.<\/p>\n<p>Tourism Ireland is also targeting its own social fanbase \u2013 posting and tweeting to about 3.4 million Facebook fans and more than 323,000 followers on Twitter globally.
