{"id":1301,"date":"2010-06-06T10:25:33","date_gmt":"2010-06-06T09:25:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.whatsonni.com\/blog\/?p=1301"},"modified":"2010-06-06T10:25:33","modified_gmt":"2010-06-06T09:25:33","slug":"belfast%e2%80%99s-maritime-heritage-celebrated","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/whatsonni.com\/news\/2010\/06\/belfast%e2%80%99s-maritime-heritage-celebrated\/","title":{"rendered":"Belfast\u2019s maritime heritage celebrated"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.whatsonni.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/maritime.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-1302\" title=\"maritime\" src=\"http:\/\/www.whatsonni.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/maritime.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"448\" height=\"312\" \/><\/a>Belfast\u2019s close links with the sea\u00a0are once again being celebrated next month,\u00a0when the city hosts the\u00a0fifth annual Belfast\u00a0Titanic Maritime Festival.<\/p>\n<p>The quaysides on both sides of the River Lagan will come alive from 4-6 June, with a weekend of maritime-themed family fun, food and frolics.<\/p>\n<p>There will be a wealth of live music, maritime-themed street theatre, children\u2019s activities and workshops, international markets and a variety of tours\u00a0exploring Belfast\u2019s rich seafaring history.<\/p>\n<p>The River Lagan will host races, displays and showcases from the likes of the high speed Zapcats, the historic Galway Hookers, a university boat race and local sail trainers, Ocean Youth Trust Ireland.<\/p>\n<p>One other prominent feature on the Queens Quayside will be the &#8216;Jacinta&#8217;, a\u00a0fishing trawler converted to a floating museum.\u00a0 The fishing\u00a0theme continues on Queens Quay, with a gastronomic celebration of all things seafood related to tantalise the tastebuds including cookery demos and a variety of interactive, traditional arts and crafts.<\/p>\n<p>The Class A sailing vessels \u2018Phoenix\u2019 and \u2018Thalassa\u2019 also will be berthed in the city and open to visitors over the weekend.<\/p>\n<p>There will be a free shuttlebus service throughout the three days, linking activities on both sides of the river and the city centre.<\/p>\n<p>For full details of all the weekend\u2019s activities, log on to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.belfastcity.gov.uk\/maritimefestival\">www.belfastcity.gov.uk\/maritimefestival<\/a> or call the Belfast Welcome Centre on +44 (0)20 9024 6609.<\/p>\n<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on the_content -->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Belfast\u2019s close links with the sea\u00a0are once again being celebrated next month,\u00a0when the city hosts the\u00a0fifth annual Belfast\u00a0Titanic Maritime Festival.
