{"id":14195,"date":"2017-05-16T17:33:34","date_gmt":"2017-05-16T16:33:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/whatsonni.com\/news\/?p=14195"},"modified":"2017-05-16T17:33:34","modified_gmt":"2017-05-16T16:33:34","slug":"millennium-forum-hosts-dementia-awareness-even","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/whatsonni.com\/news\/2017\/05\/millennium-forum-hosts-dementia-awareness-even\/","title":{"rendered":"Millennium Forum hosts Dementia Awareness even"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1>The North West\u2019s premier theatre will host a special event on Wednesday 17<sup>th<\/sup> May as part of Dementia Awareness Week.<\/h1>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright wp-image-14196\" src=\"https:\/\/whatsonni.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/press2-28.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"529\" height=\"353\" \/>This event is organised by a local partnership that includes Alzheimer\u2019s Society, NI Deed and WHSCT and will bring organisations as well as members of the public together to raise awareness about living with dementia.<\/p>\n<p>The Millennium Forum has already been leading the way as a Dementia Friendly theatre; in 2014, the venue was the first theatre in Ireland to stage a specially adapted performance of its Christmas pantomime and, last year, this offering was developed to form the \u2018Sing Song Sessions\u2019 which took the panto cast to various centres across the city, enabling people living with dementia to enjoy an afternoon of live music.<\/p>\n<p>Lisa Heaney, Box Office Manager at the Millennium Forum says:<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cWe are delighted to be hosting this hugely important event.\u00a0\u00a0 Since staging our first Dementia Friendly panto show in Dec 2014, we have been working closely with local organisations including Deed, OLT and the Alzheimer\u2019s Society to develop this aspect of our annual programming.\u00a0 As a fully accessible theatre, we believe that everyone should experience a theatrical performance.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Heather Lundy, Dementia Friendly Community Manager at Alzheimer\u2019s Society said:<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cIt is wonderful that people affected by dementia can be confident that support is available throughout Derry~Londonderry as the event at Millennium Forum showcases.\u00a0 Following a diagnosis of dementia it is vital that people access information and support to live well and plan for their future.\u00a0 Staying connected to our local communities is so empowering and I am delighted that this event is being hosted by Millennium Forum who have been working tirelessly since 2014 to provide Dementia Friendly performances of some of their most iconic shows and raise awareness amongst staff and patrons.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Registrations to attend the event can be made by emailing <a href=\"mailto:sabrina@olt.ie\">sabrina@olt.ie<\/a> or calling 02871 373870.<\/p>\n<p>The Dementia Friendly performance of the Millennium Forum\u2019s panto, Jack &amp; the Beanstalk takes place at 4pm on Sunday 10<sup>th<\/sup> December.
