Tickets for all concerts are available online at <\/strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ulsterorchestra.org.uk\">www.ulsterorchestra.org.uk<\/a><strong>, Belfast concerts are on sale from the Ulster Hall (028 9033 4455) and you can purchase tickets for shows elsewhere by contacting the relevant venue. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This season sees the core subscription series increase to 16 concerts, a series of Pops concerts in Belfast Waterfront and the introduction of a brand new Festive mini-series, along with the return of the 9-concert JTI Lunchtime Series.<\/p>\n<p>Music Director <strong>Rafael Payare<\/strong> opens the Season on <strong>Friday 22 September<\/strong> in a Gala concert for <strong>Culture Night Belfast<\/strong> that welcomes Artist Laureate <strong>Sir James Galway<\/strong> back as guest soloist; the first of many internationally-renowned stars to visit this Season. Also taking to the stage will be cellists <strong>Alisa Weilerstein <\/strong>and<strong> Johannes Moser, <\/strong>pianists <strong>Jean-Efflam Bavouzet <\/strong>and <strong>Simon Trp\u010deski <\/strong>and violinists <strong>Sergey Khachatryan <\/strong>and <strong>Tasmin Little<\/strong>, to name a few.<\/p>\n<p>Maestro Payare delves into some of music\u2019s powerhouse symphonies, conducting work by <strong>Beethoven<\/strong>, <strong>Mahler<\/strong> and <strong>Brahms<\/strong> and closing the season with <strong>Shostakovich<\/strong>\u2019s heroic Fifth Symphony. He takes to the stage with two regular collaborators, pianists <strong>Vikingur \u00d3lafsson<\/strong> and <strong>Jonathan Biss<\/strong>, to explore piano concertos by <strong>Mozart <\/strong>and also introduces his friend and fellow countryman, trumpet player <strong>Pacho Flores, <\/strong>to the Ulster Hall stage.<\/p>\n<p>The main theme of the subscription series is \u2018The Great Concertos\u2019 and Principal Guest Conductor <strong>Jac van Steen <\/strong>will take the podium for some of the greatest of them all, commencing with <strong>Sibelius\u2019s <\/strong>bewitching <strong>Violin Concerto <\/strong>on Friday 1 December. He will also bring music by composers who are national heroes in their respective homelands, including the rich Czech Romanticism of <strong>Dvo\u0159\u00e1k<\/strong> and the two pillars of English composition, <strong>Elgar<\/strong> and <strong>Vaughan Williams. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Every Ulster Orchestra season extends invitations to highly regarded guest conductors, this year welcoming (amongst others) <strong>Gergely Madaras <\/strong>to conduct <strong>Stravinsky\u2019s <\/strong>dazzling suite <strong>The Firebird <\/strong>and <strong>Jonathan Darlington <\/strong>for a performance of <strong>Brahms\u2019s <\/strong>gentle and intimate <strong>German Requiem <\/strong>at Easter.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Belfast Waterfront<\/strong> becomes the new home for the Ulster Orchestra\u2019s pops series of concerts and these glittering nights that celebrate the music of <strong>John Williams<\/strong>, musicals and disco legends <strong>ABBA<\/strong> are hotly anticipated \u2013 be sure to make space in the diary to travel to a galaxy far, far away or dust off the flares and platforms!<\/p>\n<p><strong>I love Christmas!<\/strong>, the new Festive series of concerts, includes perennial favourites such as <strong>Handel\u2019s Messiah<\/strong> (featuring regular concert partners <strong>Belfast Philharmonic Choir<\/strong>) <strong>The Snowman <\/strong>family concert and <strong>Celebrate<\/strong> <strong>New Year in Vienna, <\/strong>along with a brand new seasonal spectacular, <strong>The Magic of Christmas. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>With all this, alongside the annual <strong>Burns Night<\/strong> extravaganza (in association with the Ulster-Scots Agency), the <strong>On Your Doorstep <\/strong>series of concerts outside Belfast and the <strong>JTI Lunchtime Series<\/strong> for a monthly bite-sized Tuesday treat, there is guaranteed to be something for every taste.
