{"id":14875,"date":"2017-08-16T10:27:18","date_gmt":"2017-08-16T09:27:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/whatsonni.com\/news\/?p=14875"},"modified":"2017-08-16T10:27:47","modified_gmt":"2017-08-16T09:27:47","slug":"canadian-poet-featured-on-u2s-current-tour-comes-to-seamus-heaney-homeplace","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/whatsonni.com\/news\/2017\/08\/canadian-poet-featured-on-u2s-current-tour-comes-to-seamus-heaney-homeplace\/","title":{"rendered":"Canadian poet featured on U2\u2019s current tour comes to Seamus Heaney HomePlace"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1>Canadian poet\u00a0<strong>George Elliott Clarke<\/strong>, whose work features on U2\u2019s current Joshua Tree anniversary tour, will visit\u00a0<strong>Seamus Heaney HomePlace<\/strong>\u00a0on\u00a0<strong>Wednesday 23 August<\/strong>\u00a0as part of\u00a0<strong>\u2018<em>The Shaken and the Stirred: A Celebration of Canadian Poetry\u2019.\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><\/h1>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright wp-image-14876\" src=\"https:\/\/whatsonni.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/press2-24-886x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"396\" height=\"458\" \/>Two poems by Clarke, who is Canada\u2019s Parliamentary Poet and Poet Laureate, appear as projections before every show on U2\u2019s current North American and European tour. \u00a0\u2018Kaddish for Leonard Cohen\u2019 was written as a tribute to the late Montreal songwriter, while \u2018Ain\u2019t You Scared of the Sacred\u2019 addresses the Quebec City mosque shooting in January that left six people dead.<\/p>\n<p>Clarke forms part of \u2018The Shaken and the Stirred\u2019, a collective of five renowned Canadian poets and novelists will present their work in public readings throughout the UK and Northern Ireland to mark the 150th anniversary of the founding of Canada.<\/p>\n<p>The poetry collective of individual writers is selected each year by a panel, representing the Canadian Centre for Creative Learning.
