{"id":15878,"date":"2018-02-27T13:10:27","date_gmt":"2018-02-27T12:10:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/whatsonni.com\/news\/?p=15878"},"modified":"2018-02-27T13:10:27","modified_gmt":"2018-02-27T12:10:27","slug":"comm-on-18-to-explore-mental-health-amongst-freelance-workers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/whatsonni.com\/news\/2018\/02\/comm-on-18-to-explore-mental-health-amongst-freelance-workers\/","title":{"rendered":"COMM\/ON 18 to explore mental health amongst freelance workers"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1><strong>COMM\/ON 18<\/strong>, an event exploring the issue of mental health amongst freelance workers, will take place on <strong>Wednesday 14 March<\/strong> from\u00a0<strong>2pm\u00a0\u2013\u00a05pm at the Black Box<\/strong> in Belfast as part of <strong>Imagine, The Belfast Festival of Ideas and Politics<\/strong>.<\/h1>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright wp-image-15879\" src=\"https:\/\/whatsonni.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/PicMonkey-Collage-8-1024x384.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"450\" height=\"169\" \/>Founded by Adam Turkington from Seedhead Arts, a freelancer himself, the first <strong>COMM\/ON <\/strong>event took place in March 2017.\u00a0 Adam explains:<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cWhile there are numerous advantages to working as a freelancer such as greater flexibility and control over the work you do, there are obvious downsides too such as lack of security and isolation, which can have a negative impact on mental health.\u00a0 <\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>The aim of COMM\/ON is to bring freelancers of all backgrounds \u2013 artists, bakers, tailors, brewers, designers, baristas, entertainers, etc. &#8211; together in one space to share their experiences, support each other, network and collaborate.\u00a0<\/em><em>Our hope for COMM\/ON is that it will start a conversation which improves the working lives of freelancers and celebrates the contribution that they make to society.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>According to a recent report from the Office for National Statistics, <em>\u201c&#8230;t<\/em><em>he rapid growth of self-employment has been a pronounced feature of the UK labour market in recent years.
