{"id":15965,"date":"2018-03-15T16:12:55","date_gmt":"2018-03-15T15:12:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/whatsonni.com\/news\/?p=15965"},"modified":"2018-03-26T13:23:19","modified_gmt":"2018-03-26T12:23:19","slug":"sails-and-tales-stories-by-the-sea-easter-weekend-in-bangor","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/whatsonni.com\/news\/2018\/03\/sails-and-tales-stories-by-the-sea-easter-weekend-in-bangor\/","title":{"rendered":"Sails and Tales, Stories by the sea: Easter Weekend in Bangor"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1>Families can step into the land of make-believe in Bangor this Easter with three days of free, family fun scheduled to take place in the seaside town &#8211;\u00a0 with its very own mystical maze taking centre \u2018page\u2019.<\/h1>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright wp-image-15966\" src=\"https:\/\/whatsonni.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/PicMonkey-Collage-3-1024x530.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"550\" height=\"285\" \/>Inspired by children\u2019s favourite, \u2018Alice in Wonderland\u2019, Bangor Seafront will play host to dotMaze, a 20-fmetre installation that is travelling to Bangor all the way from America, from <strong>Saturday 31 March <\/strong>until<strong> Monday 2 April<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Main Street, My Street\u2019 and Bangor Chamber of Commerce will host Bangor\u2019s Big Bunny Hunt on <strong>Saturday 31 March and Monday 2 April<\/strong>.\u00a0 There will be an Easter Garden in Menarys, kids crafts in Bob and Bert\u2019s and cupcake and biscuit decorating in the Heatherlea bakery.\u00a0 As well as competitions and giveaways in many stores, puppet shows will also take place in Focus Menswear on High Street on the Saturday, courtesy of the Council.<\/p>\n<p><strong>On Easter Monday, 2 April<\/strong>, families can step off the train at Bangor and straight into another \u2018magical\u2019 land at the Thomas the Tank Engine experience.\u00a0 Fans will be delighted to find Thomas and The Fat Controller waiting to meet them at intervals throughout the day.\u00a0 While a special display curated by First Bangor Model Railway Club will be a \u2019must see\u2019 for railway enthusiasts.<\/p>\n<p>The town\u2019s popular annual Easter scavenger hunt will take place at the nearby North Down Museum where kids can follow the trail through the museum galleries and solve the clues to reveal the name of a popular book.<\/p>\n<p>Little adventurers can discover the magic of nature as they follow a treasure trail through the popular Victorian, Ward Park and meet the little folk who live in big trees above, tunnel into the soil below and fly on the backs of winged beasts.\u00a0 Prepare to be enchanted!<\/p>\n<p>For those with a sweet tooth:\u00a0 Project 24 at the seafront will be transformed into Bangor\u2019s very own Chocolate Factory with chocolate making workshops and invention stations where children can make even more tasty treats.\u00a0 Special appearances from \u2018Willy Wonka\u2019 and the \u2018Oompa Loompas\u2019 will definitely make visitors go \u2018doompety doo\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>From there, families should make their way to McKee Clock Arena and the must-visit mystical maze.<\/p>\n<p>If they haven\u2019t got lost in the maze, children can dress up in \u2018The Emperor\u2019s New Clothes\u2019 with face painting, children\u2019s crafts, distorting mirrors and more themed fun in a nearby, dedicated tent.<\/p>\n<p>While a second tent plays host to \u2018Mr McGregor\u2019s Garden\u2019 where children can plant their own radish and create all sorts of colourful crafts, inspired by Peter Rabbit and friends.<\/p>\n<p>Also at the McKee Clock Arena, famous fairy tales such as \u2018The Three Little Pigs\u2019 and \u2018Cinderella\u2019 will be brought to life through dance by \u2018Jump, Jiggle and Jive\u2019 while classic tales and improvised yarns will be told from the \u2018Shed of Stories\u2019 pop-up library throughout the day.\u00a0 Children can also pen their own piece at a creative writing desk in the shed.<\/p>\n<p>Visitors must also take time to ride the Land Train along the seafront.<\/p>\n<p>Open House will also be at wowing the crowds in their own unique style with strolling storytellers popping up in the town throughout the afternoon.\u00a0 Storytelling will also take place in Eason on High Street, so no one need miss out on some tale telling!<\/p>\n<p>The event is being organised by Ards and North Down Borough Council with support from Bangor Chamber of Commerce and \u2018Main Street, My Street\u2019.
