{"id":16875,"date":"2018-11-13T18:39:05","date_gmt":"2018-11-13T17:39:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/whatsonni.com\/news\/?p=16875"},"modified":"2018-11-13T18:39:05","modified_gmt":"2018-11-13T17:39:05","slug":"studying-science-technology-engineering-or-maths-are-you-up-for-the-stem-quest-challenge","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/whatsonni.com\/news\/2018\/11\/studying-science-technology-engineering-or-maths-are-you-up-for-the-stem-quest-challenge\/","title":{"rendered":"Studying Science, Technology, Engineering or Maths\u2026 Are you up for the STEM Quest Challenge?"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1>As part of the NI Science Festival, Titanic Belfast and The Council for the Curriculum, Examinations and Assessment (CCEA), are calling all whizz kids to get involved with its annual STEM Quest (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths challenge).<\/h1>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright wp-image-16876\" src=\"https:\/\/whatsonni.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/press2-6-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"267\" \/>To date, over 170 teams from across Northern Ireland have competed, with Lumen Christi triumphing last year.<\/p>\n<p>Titanic Belfast and CCEA are now on the lookout for this year\u2019s best science, technology, engineering and maths Key Stage 3 (1st \u2013 3rd year) quiz teams of four to compete and test their knowledge against their peers from across the region, in a bid to become Northern Ireland\u2019s top team.<\/p>\n<p>The teams will compete in a \u2018University Challenge style\u2019 Grand Final, hosted again by well-known personality, Joe Lindsay, at Titanic Belfast on 12<sup>th<\/sup> February 2019. The closing date for entries for the STEM Quiz is 19<sup>th<\/sup> January 2019, spaces are limited and will be given on a first come first serve basis. To enter, visit <a href=\"http:\/\/www.titanicbelfast.com\">www.titanicbelfast.com<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Siobhan McCartney, Titanic Belfast\u2019s Learning and Outreach Manager, commented, \u201cWe are absolutely thrilled to host our fourth STEM Quest Challenge supported by CCEA. To date, we have seen over 170 schools compete, and it is brilliant to see so many schools, teachers and pupils get involved and compete at such a high standard every year, especially as the need for Northern Irish STEM graduates grows. We are looking forward to this year\u2019s competition so if you are science mad, geek chic or a mathematical whiz kid get your teacher to sign up and get involved!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Justin Edwards, CCEA\u2019s Chief Executive commented: \u201cCCEA are delighted to be working together with Titanic Belfast on this year\u2019s STEM Quest challenge, as part of the NI Science Festival.\u00a0 NI\u2019s young people continue to display an interest and enthusiasm in STEM, with our latest figures showing that over 40% of all GCSE entries are STEM subjects. The competitive, learning, fun environment that the STEM Quest challenge offers learners is wonderful and something which CCEA are delighted to encourage\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The event is just one of the Titanic Belfast\u2019s learning and outreach activities.
