{"id":17329,"date":"2019-05-09T11:19:48","date_gmt":"2019-05-09T10:19:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/whatsonni.com\/news\/?p=17329"},"modified":"2019-05-09T11:19:48","modified_gmt":"2019-05-09T10:19:48","slug":"renowned-theatre-company-launches-first-all-ireland-tour-at-the-mac","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/whatsonni.com\/news\/2019\/05\/renowned-theatre-company-launches-first-all-ireland-tour-at-the-mac\/","title":{"rendered":"Renowned theatre company launches first all-Ireland tour at the MAC"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h4>National Theatre Wales kicks off its first ever\nisland of Ireland tour at the MAC on 22-23 May with politically charged play,\nCotton Fingers.<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/whatsonni.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/NTW-Cotton-Fingers-image-683x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-17330\" width=\"342\" height=\"512\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Written by award-winning Welsh writer, Rachel\nTrezise and starring Northern Irish actor, Amy Molloy, Cotton Fingers tells the\nstory of a young woman\u2019s journey from Belfast to Wales to access free NHS\nabortion care.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Molloy, who stared in Prime Cut\u2019s <strong>Tejas Verdes<\/strong>\nat the MAC in 2013 and in <strong>Cyprus Avenue<\/strong> with renowned actor Stephen Rea\nin 2017, now performs in this bold, one-woman show about the cycles of secrecy\nand the power young women hold over their futures, directed by National Theatre\nWales\u2019 Associate Director, Julia Thomas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Written during the Irish referendum to repeal the\n8th amendment in 2018, Cotton Fingers originally formed part of National\nTheatre Wales\u2019 NHS70 Festival, celebrating the National Health Service\u2019s 70th\nbirthday. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The female led production will tour to venues in\nBelfast, Derry~Londonderry, Dublin and Bray from 22 May until 1 June 2019,\nmarking one year since the historic referendum took place. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Announcing the tour, National Theatre Wales\u2019 Artistic Director, Kully\nThiarai said:<\/strong> \u201cWe are very excited\nto be making our debut across the Irish Sea, bringing this funny, poignant but\nimportant production to audiences in the Republic of Ireland and Northern\nIreland. Marking a year since the historic referendum, Cotton Fingers\nhighlights the stark differences between women&#8217;s rights on either side of the\nborder.
