{"id":17391,"date":"2019-05-29T10:32:38","date_gmt":"2019-05-29T09:32:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/whatsonni.com\/news\/?p=17391"},"modified":"2019-05-29T10:32:39","modified_gmt":"2019-05-29T09:32:39","slug":"bangor-to-welcome-back-phoenix-tall-ship-at-sea-bangor","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/whatsonni.com\/news\/2019\/05\/bangor-to-welcome-back-phoenix-tall-ship-at-sea-bangor\/","title":{"rendered":"Bangor to welcome back Phoenix Tall Ship at Sea Bangor!"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Phoenix of Dell Quay tall ship is preparing to set sail\nfor the two-day Sea Bangor maritime festival which takes place this Saturday 1\nand Sunday 2 June! <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/whatsonni.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/press-7-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-17392\" width=\"512\" height=\"384\"\/><figcaption>The Phoenix Tall Ship will be part of the Sea Bangor festivities (1-2 June).<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The majestic vessel will dock at Bangor\u2019s seafront for the\nfirst time since 2017, giving visitors to the seaside town an opportunity to\nclimb on board during both days of the popular festival.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Usually docked at Charlestown in Cornwall, the Phoenix was\noriginally built in Denmark back in 1929 and started her life as an evangelical\nMission Schooner. She has enjoyed a varied life and even featured in the Ridley\nScott \u20181492 Conquest of Paradise\u2019 movie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The tall ship joins a jam-packed maritime themed programme\nduring the course of the weekend that includes entertainment and activities for\nall the family.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Organised by Ards and North Down Borough Council with\nsupport from Bangor Chamber of Commerce, South Eastern Regional College (SERC),\nBangor Marina and Translink, thousands of visitors from the Borough and beyond\nwill visit Bangor to see a host of water and aerial displays.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>In the Sky<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The AeroSuperBatics Wingwalking team of high flyers are\namong the main attractions. They will swoop over the lough in their modified\nBreitling Stearman biplanes at 4.30pm on the Saturday and 3pm on the Sunday,\nperforming incredible feats in the sky in what will be a spectacular aerial\ndisplay above Bangor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Get Your Feet Wet<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And if you fancy getting your feet wet, you can take part in\none of the Royal Yachting Association\u2019s sailing experiences on the Saturday or\ntry kayaking on the Sunday. There will be boat tours on offer too, allowing you\nto explore Bangor\u2019s coastline from the sea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>On the Ground<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A bit closer to earth, you can watch Daniel Doyle create\nstunning sculptures made out of sand near the entrance to the Long Hole while\nthe Eisenhower Pier will host the popular Rowing Challenge which features local\ncommunity teams competing for the Sea Bangor Cup. Watch them battle it out for\nthe prestigious trophy!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Those keen to keep their feet firmly on dry land can visitthe Army Reserve Village in the Marina car park or head to the Tented\nVillage in Quay Street car park. The Tiddler\u2019s Tent Silent Disco is open for\nall the family while the \u2018Under the Sea\u2019 creative experience marquee will\ninspire and engage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you fancy a gentle ride, you can check out the funfair\nrides or jump on the Panoramic Wheel and get a bird\u2019s eye view of the marina.\nYou might even be able to spot Detritus of the Deep from above. Having exited\nthe depths of the ocean, he\u2019ll be roaming around the crowds on his stilts in an\nattempt to find out why his sea home is being destroyed by pollution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Food, Glorious Food!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>All that activity will get those tummies rumbling and the\nSea Bangor Caf\u00e9 will serve a variety of food with a focus on local business and\nlocal produce.
