Down<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/whatsonni.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/press-9-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-17398\" width=\"512\" height=\"342\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Portaferry\nis preparing for a four-day Sailing and Music and family fun festival which\nwill be the biggest maritime event to come to Ards Peninsula &nbsp;since the very popular \u2018Galway Hooker\nFestival\u2019 of many years ago.&nbsp; The event\nis being hosted by Portaferry Sailing Club and will centre around their Club\nHouse on the Shore Front.&nbsp; Events will\nspread out from the Club to all parts of the town ensuring plenty of family fun\nfor everyone.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The\nClub is running the festival we are expecting boats from all over the lough and\nNorth Down, Scotland, England, Wales, Isle of Man &amp; ROI and farther afield.&nbsp;&nbsp; The boats will gather on Thursday and Friday\nfor registration , race on Saturday the 22nd in Strangford Lough and have a\nfinal Parade of Sail on Sunday the 23rd.&nbsp;\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The festival highlight is a\nunique opportunity for the public to engage on the water and to cruise the\nlough on the beautiful boat \u201cSoteria\u201d and for game of thrones fans an\nopportunity sail past the famous original filming ground of \u201cWinterfell\u201d not\nforgetting 2 game of thrones doors one in Strangford and one in Portaferry other\ntours include guided walking tours both available to book&nbsp; via <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ticketsource.co.uk\/ardsandnorthdown\">www.ticketsource.co.uk\/ardsandnorthdown<\/a> &nbsp;also Skiff Racing, taster\nsessions and our the very special Water Olympics with a twist, and if you fancy\nkayaking now\u2019s your chance for taster session with Mobile team adventure (go to\nwebsite to book) for registration and other bookings events see\nprogramme via sails and sounds on facebook\/website\u2026 don\u2019t miss out!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To compliment the Sailing, there\nwill be local food outlets promoting local produce food tasting and cooking\ndemonstrations and even a chance to go foraging cook food from the water\u2019s edge&nbsp; The visiting public will be entertained by\ntraditional dancing from both our Irish and Scottish heritages and giving\ndisplays and competing at several open-air venues. Portaferry\u2019s Bars and\nrestaurants are also gearing up for the Festival with live music and special\nfood menus to keep locals and visitors replenished.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Festival committee will be providing\ncrafts for kids, kite making, treasure trail even chance to find some\nPortaferry Rocks, art competitions, street entertainment, inflatables, face\npainters, &nbsp;and much, much, more. &nbsp;&nbsp;In addition, there will storytelling, dress -up\nand crafts at the Portaferry Library free open days at RNLI, QUB and MINESTO\nwill be demonstrating their Deep Green energy project on Strangford lough our\nlocal &nbsp;&nbsp;, PAST Maritime Museum will be doing an Exhibition\nof 1000 years of ferry service which will compliment to new project around the\ntown \u201cFERRY DOORS\u201d and photo opportunities in the \u2018Pirate Photo Booth\u2019 and met our\nvery own Captain Jack Sparrow.&nbsp; There\nwill be information stands by the local groups and emergency services and\nopportunity to meet the big lottery community winners Ards Peninsula 1<sup>st<\/sup>\nResponders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Theatre entertainment\n@ Portico\u2019s \u201cAnthony Toner\u201d celebration of his new album \u201cOur Lady of the Wind\nand Rain\u201d &nbsp;we have music from Scotland\u2019s\nBox O Banana\u2019s and Irelands Hair o the Dog Irish traditional band and \u201cMany of the owners and crew members of the boats are\nmusicians themselves, so this is a double whammy for them\u201d &nbsp;For all gin, vodka and whiskey\nlovers we have an afternoon \u201cTastes of the Peninsula\u201d&nbsp; all products from our local distillery\nEchlinville tickets \u00a320 available Portaferry Sailing Club.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Look out for details\nof all events, locations and times to be published and distributed all over the\nprovince in the near future.&nbsp; The\nfestival program can be found on our exclusive website <a href=\"http:\/\/www.portaferrysails&amp;sounds.co.uk\">www.portaferrysails&amp;sounds.co.uk<\/a> or\nfollow us on facebook, www.facebook.com\/Portaferrysailsandsounds\n&nbsp;for updates and festival information.
