{"id":17532,"date":"2019-07-03T09:48:17","date_gmt":"2019-07-03T08:48:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/whatsonni.com\/news\/?p=17532"},"modified":"2019-07-03T09:48:18","modified_gmt":"2019-07-03T08:48:18","slug":"follow-the-flow-and-discover-artificial-sunshine-at-the-argory","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/whatsonni.com\/news\/2019\/07\/follow-the-flow-and-discover-artificial-sunshine-at-the-argory\/","title":{"rendered":"FOLLOW THE FLOW AND DISCOVER ARTIFICIAL SUNSHINE AT THE ARGORY"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>This summer, conservation charity The National Trust invites everyone to discover people\u2019s stories, histories and lives that light up The Argory, County Armagh.<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/whatsonni.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/press-1-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-17533\" width=\"512\" height=\"342\"\/><figcaption>Evvie Bishop, 11 yrs.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>There\u2019s\nsomething new for everyone to experience at The Argory. From the vibrant neon art\ninstallation <em>\u2018Artificial Sunshine\u2019,&nbsp; <\/em>in\nthe west Hall of the\nhouse, to a brand new child friendly outdoor trail called <em>\u2018Follow The Flow\nWater Trail.\u2019<\/em> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2018<em>Artificial\nSunshine\u2019<\/em> by Northern Irish artist Kevin Killen was revealed to the public\nin April 2018.&nbsp; It took the place of the\nWest Hall chandelier which was removed as part of a major conservation project\nto clean all the acetylene light fittings in the house. &nbsp;To create the bespoke artwork Kevin drew\ninspiration from The Argory; the spiral shapes found in the house d\u00e9cor, Mr\nBond\u2019s (the last owner of The Argory) passion for collecting contemporary&nbsp; art, the glow of the acetylene gas flame (neon\nwas used as it creates a similar light and cast to acetylene gas light) and the\npulsing of the light reflective of the artist\u2019s breathing.&nbsp; With the chandelier due to return in\nNovember, The Argory has made the exciting decision to keep Artifical Sunshine.\nIt will be reimagined in a new location within the house.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There\nis as much to discover outside as there is inside at The Argory.&nbsp; This summer children will enjoy a new outdoor\ntrail called <em>\u2018Follow The Flow Water Trail.\u2019<\/em> The trail not only reveals\nthe technologies used on the estate down through the centuries but the\nessential use of water. Children will enjoy discovering how a donkey helped to\noperate the pump that&nbsp; piped water from\nthe river into the house. They\u2019ll learn how the bowstring design of Bond\u2019s\nbridge built in 1890 and named after the family who owned The Argory, provided\neasy access to the estate &#8211; plus much more!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Looking\nforward to welcoming visitors to The Argory over the summer Christina Taylor, House\nand Collections Manager for Mid Ulster, said:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u201c\nWe welcome everyone to join us this summer to discover the stories of the\npeople that help to light up The Argory. Whether it\u2019s taking a tour of the\nhouse to hear about it\u2019s history, our conservation project, see \u2018Artificial Sunshine\u2019\nor to walk around our new \u2018 Follow The Flow Water Trail,\u2019 there is guaranteed\nto be something to inspire and excite all our visitors.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Local\nartist Kevin Killen added:<em><br>\n\u201cWorking with the National Trust on the development and installation of \u2018Artificial\nSunshine\u2019 &nbsp;has been a wonderful experience.\nThe Argory is a truly inspiring place which enabled me to deliver an entirely\nmodern take on a celebrated form of lighting. &nbsp;I would encourage everyone to visit this very\nspecial place and hope that my part in The Argory\u2019s story helps to inspire and\nlight up people\u2019s lives.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The\nArgory is open daily throughout July and August, 11am-5pm. &nbsp;Standard admission prices: Adult \u00a36.36, Child \u00a33.18 and Family \u00a315.90.\nMembers Free.
