The fast and furious P-47-D Thunderbolt American fighter will be the star attraction at this year\u2019s Air Waves as Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council announce a dazzling line-up of world-famous aviation\nattractions. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The legendary P-47-D Thunderbolt – affectionally known as the Mighty \u2018Jug\u2019 \u2013 will\nwow spectators with a thrilling show of power and sound as\nit makes its first ever appearance at the largest airshow on\nthe island of Ireland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Air Waves Portrush, supported by Tourism NI, will showcase an\narray of world-class aircraft for two days of thrilling flying and a host of land-based family\nentertainment on\nSaturday 31st<\/sup> August and Sunday 1st<\/sup> September 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Looking\nforward to the weekend, The Deputy Mayor of Causeway\nCoast and Glens Borough Council, Alderman Sharon\nMcKillop, said: \u201cPortrush and the wider Causeway Coast and Glens area is\nenjoying a stand out summer season following the huge success of The Open. On\nthe back of that, Air Waves Portrush is set to be another unmissable\naction-packed event.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe\nare anticipating large number of spectators from Northern Ireland and beyond\nwill attend the two-day show, which takes place against the stunning backdrop\nof East Strand beach. With an array of air and ground displays to watch and\nexplore, Air Waves Portrush remains a stand-out element of our annual events\nportfolio and I would encourage everyone to take this opportunity to enjoy some\nfantastic aviation entertainment in this unique location.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Joining\nthe P-47-D Thunderbolt in the stellar line-up for this year\u2019s show will include\nunique daredevil manoeuvres from both the Global Stars and Team Raven. The\nAeroSuperBatics Wing Walkers will also perform\ntheir breath-taking aerial gymnastics routine.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The RAF BBMF Douglas Dakota and The RAF Tucano T1 will give a\nvintage showcase of low-level fly-bys as they commemorate the Battle of\nBritain. The Consolidated Catalina flying boat will also make a welcome return\nto Portrush with its vintage\nexhibition of graceful flying.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Irish AirCorps CASA Maritime aircraft will perform a\nseries of dramatic flypasts and the Irish Coast Guard will demonstrate its\nsearch and rescue capabilities over the Atlantic Ocean. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Other aerial highlights over the two days will be Vietnam veterans\nHuey and Loach, Calidus Autogyro, OV-10B Bronco<\/a>,\nYakovlev Yak<\/em>–3, Wild\nGeese Parachute team<\/em> and the Ulster Gliding Club. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the ground, visitors can enjoy live music,\nstreet entertainment, fun zone, Motor Village and the Naturally North Coast and\nGlens Artisan Market each day from 11am. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Ulster Aviation Society and the Ulster Military\nVehicle Club will also display their collections of vintage flying machines and\nvehicles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The STEM Village,\nsponsored by Matrix NI, will bring together a range of employers and education\nproviders to showcase career opportunities in Science, Technology, Engineering\nand Maths. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

There\nwill also be a stunning pyrotechnic aerial display in Portstewart by The Global\nStars on the Saturday evening that will also include a packed\nprogramme of family entertainment, live music and a\nmagnificent seafront fireworks display.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
