{"id":18020,"date":"2019-11-06T16:46:48","date_gmt":"2019-11-06T15:46:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/whatsonni.com\/news\/?p=18020"},"modified":"2019-11-06T20:23:54","modified_gmt":"2019-11-06T19:23:54","slug":"if-you-cant-do-the-marathon-do-the-tedathon","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/whatsonni.com\/news\/2019\/11\/if-you-cant-do-the-marathon-do-the-tedathon\/","title":{"rendered":"If you can\u2019t do the marathon \u2013 do the #tedathon!"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h4>Maeve Curley from Lavey (and a member of Termoneeny Running Club) is busy training for next year\u2019s London Marathon.<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/whatsonni.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/75266126_456051378367472_5855448709864620032_n.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-18023\" width=\"480\" height=\"360\"\/><figcaption>Ted Curley #tedathon<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>She is determined to raise as much as she can for Children\u2019s Liver Disease Foundation (CLDF) the charity which has been close to her heart ever since her six year old son, Ted, was given a life-saving liver transplant when he was just 22 months. Now Maeve has come up with a novel idea to keep her on track with her training and boost her fundraising \u2013 it\u2019s the Tedathon!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI want people to\npledge to walk, run or cycle for 5K or 30 minutes each day during December,\u201d\nsays Maeve. \u201cIt\u2019s only \u00a310 to join in so it\u2019s a simple way both to raise money\nfor a fantastic cause and to improve health and fitness during a month of\nover-indulgence. I\u2019m lucky to have got a London Marathon place but I appreciate\nnot everyone can do that. However, anyone can join in the Tedathon I\u2019ve got\nfriends and family both here and overseas who have signed up. &nbsp;With a choice of a Tedathon medal (that\ndoubles up as a Christmas tree bauble), or a pair of glow in the dark laces (as\nwell as a \u2018fit\u2019 December) upon completion, I would love if as many people as\npossible could get on board and get Tedathon done!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cTo have a child\nsuffer liver failure and go through transplant at such a young age is truly\ntraumatic but Children\u2019s Liver Disease Foundation have been there for us with\ninformation and emotional support all along. We want every family in our\nsituation to have that kind of support and this is my way of giving something\nback.\u201d&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI would not have\nbeen able to launch Tedathon without the support of Declan and Emma Leung at\nVirtual Run NI.&nbsp; They have provided\nguidance and ideas, and are designing the most amazing medals,\u201d said\nMaeve.&nbsp; Declan said, \u201cAt Virtual Run NI,\nwe want to encourage people to get fit and active, we want to motivate and\nencourage runners (and in this case walkers, cyclists and swimmers too!) of all\nabilities and ages.&nbsp; We always reward all\nfinishers with the most fantastic medals and we are really excited about our Tedathon\nmedal!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jacqueline Mc Gonigle, Chair of Termoneeny Running Club said, \u201cWe are proud to support Tedathon, and would encourage all runners, walkers, swimmers and cyclists to sign up for this very worthy challenge.&nbsp; Termoneeny Running Club is only too happy to promote this fundraiser, and have enjoyed coming up with lots of ideas to support Maeve and Tedathon.&nbsp; We wish Maeve all the best with her London marathon training.\u201d&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img src=\"https:\/\/whatsonni.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/75550412_2350413758606326_3740248948049182720_n.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-18026\"\/><figcaption>L_R Jacqueline McGonigle, Chair of TRC, Bobby, Maeve Curley, Ted Curley and Declan Leung from Virtual Run NI<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Alison Taylor, Chief\nExecutive of Children\u2019s Liver Disease Foundation commented: \u201cCLDF is the only\nUK charity dedicated to fighting all childhood liver diseases, by providing\ninformation and emotional support, funds for research and a voice for all those\naffected. In order to do this however, we rely on voluntary donations, so we are\ndelighted to hear about the Tedathon.
