{"id":19803,"date":"2021-10-15T11:10:40","date_gmt":"2021-10-15T10:10:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/whatsonni.com\/news\/?p=19803"},"modified":"2021-10-15T11:10:40","modified_gmt":"2021-10-15T10:10:40","slug":"cq-bid-dfi-working-to-resolve-vehicular-traffic-issue-in-cathedral-quarter","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/whatsonni.com\/news\/2021\/10\/cq-bid-dfi-working-to-resolve-vehicular-traffic-issue-in-cathedral-quarter\/","title":{"rendered":"CQ BID &amp; DFI Working To Resolve Vehicular Traffic Issue In Cathedral Quarter"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/whatsonni.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/Screen-Shot-2021-10-15-at-10.49.51-1.png\"><img src=\"https:\/\/whatsonni.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/Screen-Shot-2021-10-15-at-10.49.51-1.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-19805\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In May 2020 Minister for Infrastructure Nichola Mallon announced a pilot scheme which restricted traffic in the historic cobbled streets of the Cathedral Quarter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The temporary road closure of Hill Street and Gordon Street was extended until October 31 with local businesses still permitted access as required.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Businesses in the area have been divided on the subject.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cathedral Quarter Business Improvement manager Damien Corr said the BID has been working with stakeholders and businesses in the area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He added: \u201cThe Cathedral Quarter BID is committed to facilitating a solution to the vehicular traffic issue on Hill St and Gordon St.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe appreciate that this is by no means as easy as simply closing the streets to traffic. Hospitality &amp; Arts venues need deliveries and office workers need access to their car parks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt is also the case, however, that all of the above, including their customers, have a right to cleaner air and a safer environment in which to explore this beautiful area which is, after all, set in a conservation area.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mr Corr added that he hoped a solution to the ongoing debate was imminent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said: \u201cIn recent weeks the BID has been working with DFI officials to finalise a survey which we are confident will identify a way forward which will take into consideration the many issues identified by stakeholders over the last year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe survey should be ready for distribution in the next few weeks and we believe that a new regime for the road will be agreed and implemented as soon as the process permits.\u201d<\/p>\n<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on the_content -->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In May 2020 Minister for Infrastructure Nichola Mallon announced a pilot scheme which restricted traffic in the historic cobbled streets of the Cathedral Quarter.
