{"id":21185,"date":"2023-04-03T12:11:26","date_gmt":"2023-04-03T11:11:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/whatsonni.com\/news\/?p=21185"},"modified":"2023-04-03T12:11:26","modified_gmt":"2023-04-03T11:11:26","slug":"acclaimed-poets-authors-and-musicians-to-perform-at-seamus-heaney-homeplace-as-part-of-a-stunning-summer-programme-of-events","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/whatsonni.com\/news\/2023\/04\/acclaimed-poets-authors-and-musicians-to-perform-at-seamus-heaney-homeplace-as-part-of-a-stunning-summer-programme-of-events\/","title":{"rendered":"Acclaimed poets, authors and musicians to perform at Seamus Heaney HomePlace as part of a stunning summer programme of events"},"content":{"rendered":"<h4>Taking place from May to August 2023 at Seamus Heaney HomePlace, the upcoming events programme is overflowing with brilliant musicians, poets, authors, and artists.<\/h4>\n<p><strong>Setting the tone for a wonderful summer season is <em>\u2018Ellipses\u2019<\/em> by Maria McManus and Keith Acheson, featuring the very talented Arco String Quartet.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright wp-image-21186\" src=\"https:\/\/whatsonni.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/1-1024x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"541\" height=\"541\" \/>Poet Alice McCullough brings her critically acclaimed one-woman show <em>\u2018Earth to Alice\u2019<\/em> to The Helicon on 12<sup>th<\/sup> May, this event is taking place in conjunction with the Northern Ireland Mental Health Arts Festival, which runs from 11<sup>th<\/sup> \u2013 21<sup>st<\/sup> May 2023.<\/p>\n<p>Audiences will enjoy several genres of music throughout the season, featuring renowned performers such as Mundy (27<sup>th<\/sup> May), Lisa Lambe (3<sup>rd<\/sup> June), Ruth McGinley (1<sup>st<\/sup> July), Luka Bloom (8<sup>th<\/sup> July) and Colm Mac Con Iomaire (26<sup>th<\/sup> August).<\/p>\n<p>A film screening of the Oscar-nominated Irish-language feature film <em>An Cail\u00edn Ci\u00fain\u00a0(The Quiet Girl<\/em>) is planned for 10<sup>th<\/sup> June.\u00a0 This coming-of-age drama tells the poignant tale of a young girl sent to live with distant relatives in eighties rural Ireland.<\/p>\n<p>Playwright, author and poetry aficionado Roger McGough brings <em>\u2018Alive\u00a0&amp;\u00a0Gigging\u2019<\/em> to HomePlace near the end of June.\u00a0 This will be Roger\u2019s second visit to The Helicon following a memorable sell-out appearance in 2019.<\/p>\n<p>Then there is the special announcement of the debut performance of Brian Bilston in The Helicon in November.\u00a0 Brian Bilston has gathered a huge following on social media and has been described as \u2018Twitter\u2019s unofficial Poet Laureate.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>The highlight of the summer is a weekend of events to mark the tenth anniversary of the death of Seamus Heaney.\u00a0 Seamus Heaney HomePlace will welcome a number of award-winning poets from across Ireland and the UK over the course of this commemorative weekend.\u00a0 The weekend will close with a poignant screening of <em>Seamus Heaney and the music of what happens.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>This special weekend is taking place from 25<sup>th<\/sup> &#8211; 27<sup>th<\/sup> August 2023 at Seamus Heaney HomePlace, Bellaghy and is part of a full programme of events happening throughout the summer.\u00a0 A weekend pass for all five events is available to book.<\/p>\n<p>Councillor C\u00f3ra Corry, Chair of Mid Ulster District Council which owns and operates Seamus Heaney HomePlace, said:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs always, I am impressed with the variety and quality of events on offer this summer at Seamus Heaney HomePlace.\u00a0 I look forward to welcoming you to Bellaghy to celebrate the arts and enjoy the performances in the intimate setting of The Helicon.\u00a0 The beautifully curated season demonstrates the significance of poetry and the ongoing influence of Seamus Heaney.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Brian McCormick, Manager of Seamus Heaney HomePlace, said:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe upcoming summer programme is full of award-winning performers and artists and maintains the standards our audiences have become accustomed to.
