{"id":2202,"date":"2010-09-20T14:03:18","date_gmt":"2010-09-20T13:03:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.whatsonni.com\/blog\/?p=2202"},"modified":"2010-09-20T14:03:18","modified_gmt":"2010-09-20T13:03:18","slug":"remembering-world-alzheimers-day-tuesday-21st-september-with-the-fold-brain-bus","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/whatsonni.com\/news\/2010\/09\/remembering-world-alzheimers-day-tuesday-21st-september-with-the-fold-brain-bus\/","title":{"rendered":"Remembering World Alzheimer&#8217;s Day (Tuesday 21st September) with the Fold Brain Bus!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.whatsonni.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/brain.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-2203\" title=\"brain\" src=\"http:\/\/www.whatsonni.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/brain.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"439\" height=\"331\" \/><\/a>Today (21<sup>st<\/sup> September 2010) is \u2018World Alzheimer\u2019s Day\u2019, a day when people around the globe raise awareness of Alzheimer\u2019s and related dementias.<\/p>\n<p>Marking the importance of this day, Jim Wells MLA and Chair of the Stormont Health Committee got on board the Fold Brain Bus &#8211; a revolutionary mobile therapy unit from Fold Housing Association that is used to help those diagnosed with dementia throughout Northern   Ireland.<\/p>\n<p>The Fold Brain Bus contains leading-edge technology that helps to engage people with dementia through cognitive and physical exercises, which are proven to reduce depression, agitation and stress levels.<\/p>\n<p>According to Eileen Askham, Director of Care Services, Fold Housing Association: \u201cWith over 19,000 people across the province affected by the disease, and numbers expected to rise, this year\u2019s theme of \u2018Dementia, it\u2019s time for action!\u2019 is increasingly important. Our aim in introducing the Brain Bus is to make a real difference to people with dementia \u2013 to help them maintain their independence, and give them more choice and control over their lives\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Next stop! The Fold Brain Bus will be visiting Lisburn city centre on Tuesday  28<sup>th<\/sup> September 2010 as part of Age Awareness Week.
