Legendary 80\u2019s rockers Big Country are all set to return to the stage and have announced a UK tour next year.\u00a0 They have enlisted The Alarm\u2019s Mike Peters as lead singer for their 30th<\/sup> anniversary tour. They will play Spring & Airbrake on Wednesday 20th<\/sup> April 2011. <\/strong>Tickets are priced \u00a320 plus \u00a32.50 booking fee and are available from Friday 12th<\/sup> November at www.cdcleisure.net<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The band exploded onto the scene in 1982 with anthemic songs which as \u2018Fields of Fire\u2019<\/strong> and \u2018In A Big Country\u2019<\/strong> which were culled from their classic debut album \u2018The Crossing\u2019<\/strong> which sold several million worldwide.\u00a0 They followed up with a number one album \u2018Steeltown\u2019<\/strong> and released 8 studio albums all of which entered the Top Ten.\u00a0 Big Country released 28 singles 5 of which were also Top Ten.<\/p>\n

Approaching their 30th<\/sup> anniversary, the band are lining up concerts for a period of celebration that will not only embrace their illustrious past but also honour the life and times of original lead singer, guitarist and co-founder Stuart Adamson<\/strong>, who passed away so tragically in 2001.\u00a0 Taking on the mantle of lead singer and joining the band for these dates and more will be Mike Peters<\/strong> of fellow celtic rockers The Alarm<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\u201cI first met Stuart on stage at a U2<\/strong> concert in Hammersmith Palais back in 1982\u201d says Mike Peters. \u201cBono<\/strong> introduced us to his audience as being \u201cpart of the new breed\u201d and Stuart was literally passed up onto the stage by the glance and I shook his hand as I handed him a guitar \u2013 an unforgettable entrance.\u00a0 The last time I saw him was also on stage with Big Country at Glasgow Barrowlands for the last night of the Final Fling tour in 2000, when we sang Neil Young\u2019s<\/strong> \u2018Rockin In The Freeworld\u2019 together.\u00a0 When Bruce Watson<\/strong> called and asked me to sing for Big Country, it was something I didn\u2019t need to think twice about. I\u2019m looking forward to meeting all the fans again and playing a part in keeping the spirit of Stuart Adamson alive and celebrating the music of a band I have loved from near and afar for the whole of my adult like\u201d.<\/p>\n

Bass guitarist Tony Butler<\/strong> says \u201cTo play again as Big Country was something that was only going to happen if we could find someone who could compliment the band and sing the songs in the way they need to be sung \u2013 with heart and soul.\u00a0 Mike Peters from The Alarm has stepped in to fill the premise.\u00a0 It\u2019s about time the songs got another airing, and we think Stuart would be pleased too\u201d.<\/p>\n
