{"id":24506,"date":"2025-10-21T08:31:41","date_gmt":"2025-10-21T07:31:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/whatsonni.com\/news\/?p=24506"},"modified":"2025-10-21T08:33:16","modified_gmt":"2025-10-21T07:33:16","slug":"the-belfast-internation-horror-festival-2025","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/whatsonni.com\/news\/2025\/10\/the-belfast-internation-horror-festival-2025\/","title":{"rendered":"The Belfast Internation Horror Festival, 2025"},"content":{"rendered":"<h4><strong>The Belfast International Horror Festival<\/strong> previously known as the Dark Hedges Film Festival returns for a fifth year with a new name and its biggest ever programme to date!<\/h4>\n<p><strong>This year\u2019s programme runs from 22-31 October, with 12 screenings across six different venues in the city.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright wp-image-24507\" src=\"https:\/\/whatsonni.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/2-2-1024x1024.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"400\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong><u>Live Here\/ The Descent with Special guest Shauna Macdonald<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This year\u2019s highlights include the Irish premiere of Julie Pacino\u2019s (Daughter of Hollywood legend Al) feature debut I Live Here Now, along with a special guest Shauna Macdonald, who will introduce a special screening of Neil Marshal\u2019s The Descent, to mark the film\u2019s 20th anniversary (Both Saturday 25 October).<\/p>\n<p>The theme of \u201cFemale Rage\u201d runs throughout this year\u2019s programme and will be explored through a number of events, including a pop up \u2018prom-themed\u2019 screening of Brian De Palma\u2019s Carrie (1976) at Ashfield Girls high school (22 October) along with screenings of Jennifer\u2019s Body (29th October) and Bride of Frankenstein (26 October). The screening of Jame Whale\u2019s feature will be followed by a discussion, hosted by local author Victoria Brown to examine how the horror\/Sc-Fi genre represents the theme of female rage onscreen.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>The Comedy of Horror<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This year\u2019s festival also features a new strand within the programme entitled \u201cThe Comedy of Horror,\u201d which will look at some of the programmers\u2019 favourite examples of movies that successfully manage to straddle these two very different genres.<\/p>\n<p>There will be screenings of Peter Jackson\u2019s Braindead (known as Dead Alive for American Audiences) and the cult classic Tammy and the T-Rex, starring Denise Richards and the late Paul Walker.<\/p>\n<p>Both films will be introduced by a member of the festival\u2019s team and will be accompanied by screenings of new films, including Irish filmmaker Zoe Kavanagh\u2019s Demon Hunter: Time 2 Kill and Sander Maran\u2019s absolutely bonkers Estonian horror-musical, Chainsaws Were Singing.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Tony Todd Double Bill<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The festival will also pay tribute to the late Tony Todd, who passed away in November 2024 by screening two of the actor\u2019s most iconic features, Candyman (1992) and Night of the Living Dead (1990) at Accidental Theatre (28 October).<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Short Film Competition <\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The festival remains committed to its Short Film competition (27 October) with finalists in the International and Irish categories screening at the Accidental Theatre.
