{"id":25061,"date":"2026-04-27T16:14:12","date_gmt":"2026-04-27T15:14:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/whatsonni.com\/news\/?p=25061"},"modified":"2026-04-27T16:17:08","modified_gmt":"2026-04-27T15:17:08","slug":"25061","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/whatsonni.com\/news\/2026\/04\/25061\/","title":{"rendered":"Fleadh\u00a0Cheoil\u00a0na\u00a0h\u00c9ireann arrives in Belfast this August!"},"content":{"rendered":"<h4 class=\"x_paragraph\"><span class=\"x_normaltextrun\">Belfast City Council and Comhaltas Ceolt\u00f3ir\u00ed \u00c9ireann have marked 100 days until Fleadh\u00a0Cheoil\u00a0na\u00a0h\u00c9ireann by unveiling seven new\u00a0headline\u00a0acts\u00a0set to\u00a0perform at\u00a0the world\u2019s biggest celebration of Irish music and culture.<\/span><\/h4>\n<p class=\"x_paragraph\"><strong><span class=\"x_normaltextrun\">As Belfast prepares to host the All-Ireland Fleadh for the first time from Sunday 2 to Sunday 9 August, the newly announced line-up reflects the event\u2019s core traditional music programming, as well as the city\u2019s contemporary creative energy.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_paragraph\"><span class=\"x_normaltextrun\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright wp-image-25064\" src=\"https:\/\/whatsonni.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/1-11-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"550\" height=\"367\" srcset=\"https:\/\/whatsonni.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/1-11-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/whatsonni.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/1-11-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/whatsonni.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/1-11-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/whatsonni.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/1-11-1536x1024.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/whatsonni.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/1-11.jpg 1920w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 550px) 100vw, 550px\" \/>Already revealed for the opening event on Sunday 2 August are the legendary Sharon Shannon and her Big Band, award-winning group Goitse and former All-Ireland winners, Blackwater C\u00e9il\u00ed Band.\u00a0The seven new acts announced will also perform on the iconic Gig Rig stage which will be located outside Belfast City Hall.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_paragraph\"><span class=\"x_normaltextrun\">On Wednesday (5 August), audiences can look forward to performances from two dynamic quartet groups, Tempest Ceol and NxNW. The following evening, Thursday (6 August), acclaimed uilleann piper Conor Mallon will take to the stage, captivating crowds with his extraordinary skill alongside band members.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_paragraph\"><span class=\"x_normaltextrun\">The weekend will be ushered in on Friday (7 August) with Glasgow ensemble TRIP, before Saturday evening (8 August) kicks off with rising talents Peter Street and the electrifying Mec Lir.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_paragraph\"><span class=\"x_normaltextrun\">The main stage will also host free live performances across all eight days of the event. Following a callout earlier this year, visitors can expect to enjoy a diverse mix of multi-cultural performances and cross-community collaborations throughout the week.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_paragraph\"><span class=\"x_normaltextrun\">To mark the 100-day milestone, it was also announced today that the opening celebration will include\u00a0<\/span>over 100 children from primary and secondary schools across North Down and Belfast as part of a school choir project.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_paragraph\">There will also be\u00a0<span class=\"x_normaltextrun\">a special collaborative performance from host branch Ards\u00a0<\/span>CC\u00c9<span class=\"x_normaltextrun\">, South Asian Dance Academy and Belfast Bands Forum, as well as an array of\u00a0<\/span>champion Irish dancers, led by Riverdance lead, Lauren Smyth.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_paragraph\"><span class=\"x_normaltextrun\">In celebration of the\u00a075<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0anniversary of Comhaltas and the 50<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0anniversary of Ards\u00a0<\/span>CC\u00c9<span class=\"x_normaltextrun\">, Fleadh 2026 will also see\u00a0the return of\u00a0a\u00a0series of long-standing flagship events which celebrate excellence, creativity, participation and inclusion across the traditional arts.\u00a0This will include a special anniversary concert by Ards CC\u00c9 in the Ulster Hall, a famous live music venue in Belfast with an equally impressive musical legacy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_paragraph\"><span class=\"x_normaltextrun\">\u2018Ceol\u202fna\u202fCruinne\u2019,\u00a0the Comhaltas International Showcase Concert celebrating global connections\u00a0and\u00a0exceptional talent from Comhaltas branches worldwide\u00a0will also take place in the Ulster Hall, alongside\u00a0a\u00a0performance from the Comhaltas National Folk\u00a0Orchestra,\u00a0a 60-member ensemble of exceptional young musicians, singers, and dancers\u00a0from across Ireland.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"x_normaltextrun\">The\u00a0Flanagan Award, taking place in\u00a0the impressive Assembly Buildings,\u00a0will\u00a0pay tribute to the great banjo players across the traditional Irish music world, whose artistic talents, intellectual gifts, and creative\u00a0passions\u00a0represent\u00a0the\u202fvery best\u202fof Michael Flanagan\u2019s music and spirit.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Comhaltas have announced that this year\u2019s recipient will be Cathal Hayden.\u00a0Cathal, who hails from County Tyrone, is an accomplished banjo and fiddle player with a distinguished career in traditional Irish music.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_paragraph\"><span class=\"x_normaltextrun\">Events will also be held inside Belfast City Hall, including the Gradam Inclusion Awards, an uplifting event which <\/span><span class=\"x_normaltextrun\">celebrates traditional Irish musicians with\u00a0additional\u00a0needs, helping to ensure the Fleadh is a place where everyone can share their love of music.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_paragraph\"><span class=\"x_normaltextrun\">The festival will come to a close on Sunday 9 August with an impressive closing set from the 2026 winners of the prestigious Senior C\u00e9il\u00ed Band competition &#8211;
