{"id":3387,"date":"2011-09-20T16:45:46","date_gmt":"2011-09-20T15:45:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.whatsonni.com\/blog\/?p=3387"},"modified":"2011-09-20T16:45:46","modified_gmt":"2011-09-20T15:45:46","slug":"echo-echo-dance-tour-a-fantastical-family-show-this-autumn","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/whatsonni.com\/news\/2011\/09\/echo-echo-dance-tour-a-fantastical-family-show-this-autumn\/","title":{"rendered":"Echo Echo Dance tour a fantastical family show this autumn&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>The wacky and wonderful children\u2019s dance theatre show <em>Undercurrent<\/em> is coming to a venue near you<strong><em> <\/em><\/strong>this autumn to delight local children with fairytales, superheroes and blue monsters.<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.whatsonni.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/echo-echo.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-3388\" title=\"echo echo\" src=\"http:\/\/www.whatsonni.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/echo-echo.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"453\" height=\"637\" \/><\/a>Created and performed by Echo Echo Dance Theatre Company, known as Northern Ireland\u2019s leading dance company, the show will tour the province in October and November to Belfast, Derry, Omagh, Letterkenny, Donaghmore, Limavady, Newtownabbey and Downpatrick.<\/p>\n<p>Undercurrent is aimed at primary-aged children and families and was the brainchild of Associate Artistic Director of Echo Echo, Ayesha Mailey. She was inspired by all the superhero greats, comic book vocabulary and Grimm fairytales.<\/p>\n<p>The show has previously been performed at the <em>Hidden Treasures Children\u2019s Festival <\/em>in Derry, the <em>Pick N Mix Festival<\/em> in Belfast and <em>Imaginosity Children\u2019s Museum<\/em> in Dublin.<\/p>\n<p>Jane Coyle from Culture Northern Ireland described Undercurrent as:<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cA colourful piece that invites children and their parents or adult companions into a madcap world of fairytales and nursery rhymes, inhabited by strange creatures and colourful toys. The company takes delight in breaking the rules and having a laugh and the joy on the emerging audience\u2019s faces after the production speaks volumes for what they have just experienced.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Having been performed for hundreds of children and adults alike, Echo Echo hopes that Undercurrent will tickle local audiences pink with its playful movement, imagination and illusion.<\/p>\n<p>Echo Echo\u2019s Development Officer, Sarah Bryden said:<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cEcho Echo is incredibly excited about performing Undercurrent at eight different venues across Northern Ireland. This tour is one of the company\u2019s biggest since 2007 so the dancers have been in intensive rehearsals since early September to ensure that audiences get a fantastic show.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Echo Echo Dance Theatre Company is based in Derry-Londonderry and regularly produces and tours internationally with original new performance work for an ensemble of local and international dancers.
