{"id":4751,"date":"2012-07-25T15:21:18","date_gmt":"2012-07-25T14:21:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.whatsonni.com\/news\/?p=4751"},"modified":"2012-07-25T15:21:18","modified_gmt":"2012-07-25T14:21:18","slug":"the-titanic-anchor-arrives-into-belfast","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/whatsonni.com\/news\/2012\/07\/the-titanic-anchor-arrives-into-belfast\/","title":{"rendered":"The Titanic Anchor Arrives Into Belfast"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>It was a glorious day in May 1911 when <em>Titanic\u2019s<\/em> anchor first arrived into Belfast after its travels from Netherton, England.<\/h2>\n<figure id=\"attachment_4752\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4752\" style=\"width: 448px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.whatsonni.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/Cast-of-Titanic-Boys-arrive-at-Titanic-Belfast.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-4752\" title=\"Cast of Titanic Boys arrive at Titanic Belfast\" src=\"http:\/\/www.whatsonni.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/Cast-of-Titanic-Boys-arrive-at-Titanic-Belfast.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"448\" height=\"298\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-4752\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The cast of Titanic Boys arrive at Titanic Belfast.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The anchor was made by Hingley\u2019s and transported by 20 shire horses through the streets of nearby Dudley on the start of its journey to Belfast.\u00a0 The anchor arrived on the Heysham boat and was pulled by another 16 shire horses through the streets of Belfast to the H&amp;W shipyard.<\/p>\n<p>Today, 100 years on, the cast of <em>The Titanic Boys<\/em> recreated this famous arrival and paid their respects to the men who build the world\u2019s most famous ship.\u00a0 To celebrate the launch of this spectacular new musical, Martin Lynch and JJ Gilmour and their team transported a life-sized replica of the anchor, pulled by shire horses, from The Harbour Commissioner\u2019s office, through Belfast City Centre, to the new Titanic Belfast, where, to the delight of the Belfast public, they performed a sneak preview of the show.<\/p>\n<p>Waiting at Titanic Belfast to greet the anchor was East Belfast\u2019s Sammy Wilson, Minister of Finance and Personnel, and relatives of the Guarantee Group \u2013 the nine Belfast men whose tragic story is documented by Lynch and Gilmour\u2019s <em>The Titanic Boys<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Two weeks before the Titanic was due to depart, designer Thomas Andrews selected four young apprentices to sail on the maiden voyage as part of the nine-strong Harland &amp; Wolff Guarantee Group. They were to act as trouble-shooters, dealing with snags and problems and taking notes for improving the ship.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>The Titanic Boys<\/em><\/strong> is the powerful true story of nine ordinary Belfast men who found themselves at the centre of an extraordinary world event. They knew the Titanic better than anybody else in the world. They built it. Sailed on it. And died on it. For the first time &#8211; this is their story.<\/p>\n<p><em>With fantastic music and songs by JJ Gilmour (Dancing Shoes \u2013 The George Best Story) and Martin Lynch\u2019s unerring accuracy for the Belfast character, this show is a roller coaster of highs and lows, featuring laugh-out-loud comedy alongside some of the most powerfully poignant scenes you\u2019re ever likely to witness.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>The World Premiere of a new Musical by Martin Lynch and JJ Gilmour: <em>The Titanic Boys <\/em>produced by GBL Productions will open on Wednesday, 8<sup>th <\/sup>August, (closing 25<sup>th<\/sup> August) 2012, at The Grand Opera House, Belfast.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Tickets for <em>The Titanic Boys <\/em>are selling fast.
