{"id":5092,"date":"2012-10-18T13:04:39","date_gmt":"2012-10-18T12:04:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.whatsonni.com\/news\/?p=5092"},"modified":"2012-10-18T13:04:39","modified_gmt":"2012-10-18T12:04:39","slug":"nitb-proves-%e2%80%98home-is-where-the-heart-is%e2%80%99-in-2012","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/whatsonni.com\/news\/2012\/10\/nitb-proves-%e2%80%98home-is-where-the-heart-is%e2%80%99-in-2012\/","title":{"rendered":"NITB PROVES \u2018HOME IS WHERE THE HEART IS\u2019 IN 2012"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>PEOPLE from Northern Ireland were invited earlier this year \u00a0to \u2018bring home\u2019 their friends and family from around the world to showcase what Northern Ireland has to offer in 2012, as part of a Northern Ireland Tourist Board (NITB) Civic Pride campaign.<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.whatsonni.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/Bring-them-Home-pic-2-2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-5093\" title=\"Bring them Home pic 2 (2)\" src=\"http:\/\/www.whatsonni.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/Bring-them-Home-pic-2-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"448\" height=\"316\" \/><\/a>Belfast couple Denis and Marie Savage, who moved from Andersonstown to Ontario in Canada 38 years ago, won the competition which involved their family sending a \u2018virtual postcard\u2019 to let them know about all the exciting events and celebrations happening in Northern Ireland in 2012.<\/p>\n<p>The Savages, who are now settled in Canada with four children and three grandchildren, won a trip to see their family and friends courtesy of NITB and arrived in Northern Ireland this week to experience all their home country has to offer in 2012.<\/p>\n<p>Marie Savage said, \u201cOur family in West Belfast sent us a postcard telling us what an amazing year 2012 was going to be for Northern Ireland.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe emigrated to Canada from Belfast in 1974 and have been living there since.\u00a0 We entered the competition on the ni2012 website but never expected to win and are absolutely delighted to experience Northern Ireland in its most exciting year yet.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOn our trip home as well as spending time with family we\u2019ve visited the spectacular Titanic Belfast, enjoyed some delicious local cuisine in Strangford and Portaferry, explored the beautiful scenery of the North Coast and shopped in Dungannon!\u201d Marie continued.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe changes since we were last home are unbelievable and I\u2019m truly proud to say I\u2019m from here.
