{"id":5210,"date":"2012-11-17T18:01:41","date_gmt":"2012-11-17T17:01:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.whatsonni.com\/news\/?p=5210"},"modified":"2012-11-17T18:01:58","modified_gmt":"2012-11-17T17:01:58","slug":"hear-ye-hear-ye-step-back-in-time-to-georgian-armagh-this-christmas","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/whatsonni.com\/news\/2012\/11\/hear-ye-hear-ye-step-back-in-time-to-georgian-armagh-this-christmas\/","title":{"rendered":"HEAR YE, HEAR YE&#8230; STEP BACK IN TIME TO GEORGIAN ARMAGH THIS CHRISTMAS"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>TAKE a step back in time and enjoy the grandeur of the Georgian era with horse-drawn carriages, children\u2019s street games and theatre, living history characters, a spectacular light projection show and much more at Armagh Georgian Day on November 24.<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.whatsonni.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/Armagh-Georgian-Day-pic-2-2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-5211\" title=\"Amragh Georgian Day pic 2\" src=\"http:\/\/www.whatsonni.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/Armagh-Georgian-Day-pic-2-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"376\" height=\"251\" \/><\/a>More than 20,000 people are expected to flock to Armagh for its annual Georgian Day which celebrates the city\u2019s historic roots with a modern twist and also marks the start of its Christmas celebrations.<br \/>\nGeorgian Day will be in full swing from 10am and the Northern Ireland Tourist Board (NITB) is encouraging people to join the celebrations.<\/p>\n<p>NITB\u2019s Destination PR Officer, Pauline Gormley says Armagh Georgian Day is a great opportunity for people to find out more about the city\u2019s history while also enjoying a family day out in the run-up to Christmas.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGeorgian Day marks the start of Armagh\u2019s Christmas celebrations and promises to be a fantastic day out for the whole family.\u00a0 This year will be bigger and better than ever before and the city will be bustling with people and entertainment,\u201d said Pauline.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe streets will be filled with the smells of mince pies and mulled wine and there will be stalls from all over Northern Ireland packed with unique, handmade gifts.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere will also be horse-drawn carriages around the mall area, children\u2019s street games and theatre as well as living history characters in full Georgian dress that will entertain the crowds throughout the city,\u201d she continued.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe day is one of the most exciting and unique celebrations in the festive calendar and offers a truly special atmosphere that everyone will enjoy,\u201d Pauline added.<\/p>\n<p>Georgian Day will run from 10am until 6pm and will also include a spectacular light show which will bring the city centre to life with special effects and colour, the Christmas light-up and a surprise visit from Santa Claus.<\/p>\n<p>There will be a free Park &amp; Ride scheme running from Palace Demesne and Elim Church.\u00a0 Thomson Street, Scotch Street to the junction with Linenhall Street and Market Street will be closed to traffic during the celebrations.<\/p>\n<p>A winter city break in Armagh starts from only \u00a349 per room.<\/p>\n<p>For further information on Georgian Day click on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.discovernorthernireland.com\/\">www.discovernorthernireland.com<\/a> or visit your local tourist information centre.<\/p>\n<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on the_content -->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>TAKE a step back in time and enjoy the grandeur of the Georgian era with horse-drawn carriages, children\u2019s street games and theatre, living history characters, a spectacular light projection show and much more at Armagh Georgian Day on November 24.
