{"id":5829,"date":"2013-05-31T15:20:51","date_gmt":"2013-05-31T14:20:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.whatsonni.com\/news\/?p=5829"},"modified":"2013-05-31T15:20:51","modified_gmt":"2013-05-31T14:20:51","slug":"%e2%80%98life-on-the-lagan%e2%80%99","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/whatsonni.com\/news\/2013\/05\/%e2%80%98life-on-the-lagan%e2%80%99\/","title":{"rendered":"\u2018Life on the Lagan\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>A week long series of events to celebrate the natural beauty and illustrious history of the River Lagan from will take place from 3rd to 9th \u00a0June.<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.whatsonni.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/barge.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-5830\" title=\"barge\" src=\"http:\/\/www.whatsonni.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/barge.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"250\" height=\"167\" \/><\/a>These events will promote a positive image of the Belfast City Centre by focusing on Belfast\u2019s unique maritime history through the public\u2019s access to the Belfast Barge and its award-winning educational programming.\u00a0 We intend to give a variety of Northern Ireland residents and tourists the experience of sailing on the River Lagan and highlight the natural beauty of Belfast\u2019s River Lagan through our quayside art class and showcase the city\u2019s cultural integrity by support local musicians with our evening music event.<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, through this programme we will be revitalising and regenerating an area of the city which is frequently underused and bringing life to the River Lagan. Through this programme we will integrate the River Lagan waterfront with the city centre and emphasize the river as a significant natural asset to Belfast. During the week we will be hosting sailing and educational programming for local schools and community groups of Belfast and the Greater Belfast area.\u00a0 During the weekend we have a number of events (some are free) to celebrate the Lagan.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Saturday 8th June and Sunday 9th June<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Free Art Class with Grahame Booth<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&#8211;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0for all abilities<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 ages over 18<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 supplies will be provide<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Free tea and coffee<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 10am-12pm<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Free Walking tour with Lee Lavis and John Campbell<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&#8211;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Titled \u2018The Dockers Daydream\u2019<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Starting at 1pm from the Belfast Barge ending at the Mission for Seafarers with tea and coffee<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Join us for \u2018A Dockers Daydream\u2019 walking tour guided by Lagan Legacy&#8217;s Lee Lavis and former dock and author John Campbell.\u00a0 The tour will leave form the Belfast Barge at 1pm and end at the Mission for Seafarers, lasting for one hour.\u00a0 The tour guides you through the docks and Sailorstown with a compliment of history and Campbell&#8217;s own stories of the area.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Belfast Barge museum entry and Sailing instruction, \u00a37<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&#8211;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a37 includes your museum entry and one hour sailing instruction with the Ocean Youth Trust. Morgan opened Trinity Ball&#8217;s Mainstage earlier this year ahead of acts such\u00a0as\u00a0<em>Ellie Goulding <\/em>and\u00a0<em>The Vaccines. <\/em>Morgan played the music maker stage at\u00a0<em>Vantastival<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Morgan MacIntyre<\/strong> is a story teller with a haunting voice whose music\u00a0\u00a0has been called \u2018extraordinary\u2019 by Snow Patrol&#8217;s Gary Lightbody.<\/p>\n<p>Morgan&#8217;s songs have been played on BBC Radio1 and BBC Radio Ulster, U105, \u00a0RTE Radio1 and several commercial radio stations.
