{"id":6259,"date":"2013-09-04T16:27:29","date_gmt":"2013-09-04T15:27:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/whatsonni.com\/news\/?p=6259"},"modified":"2013-09-04T16:27:29","modified_gmt":"2013-09-04T15:27:29","slug":"bangor-400-an-odyssey-400-voices","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/whatsonni.com\/news\/2013\/09\/bangor-400-an-odyssey-400-voices\/","title":{"rendered":"Bangor 400, An Odyssey, 400 Voices"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>2013 marks the 400<sup>th<\/sup> Anniversary of Bangor\u2019s town charter with a year-long programme of events to celebrate the cultural history of the town.<\/p>\n<p>Come to Bangor Town Hall on\u00a0Saturday 14 September\u00a0for a musical journey through time.\u00a0 Swingabella will kick off the night at\u00a06pm\u00a0supported by an 8 piece band.\u00a0 This is a close-harmony vocal trio bringing back the sassy sound of the 30s and 40s \u2013 the Swing Era.\u00a0 Their repertoire includes the songs of the Andrews Sisters \u2013 favourites like \u2018Don\u2019t Sit Under The Apple Tree\u2019 and \u2018In The Mood.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Next up are Local heroes Otis and The Elevators \u2013 everyone has a favourite Blues Brothers number and they\u2019re guaranteed to create an unforgettable party atmosphere and have everyone dancing and singing!<\/p>\n<p>Appearing for the first time in Northern Ireland the next act is a huge hit in the UK.\u00a0 King Pleasure and the Biscuit Boys \u2013 this unusually named band is one of the most popular jazz and swing bands in the world, made famous by Ronnie Scott\u2019s clubs, performing classy numbers in Louis Jordan and Eddie Cleanhead style.<\/p>\n<h2>On Sunday\u00a015 we are delighted to announce an event called Bangor 400 Voices.<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/whatsonni.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/King-BiscuitBoys.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-6260\" title=\"King BiscuitBoys\" src=\"https:\/\/whatsonni.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/King-BiscuitBoys.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"490\" height=\"326\" \/><\/a>The night will commence with a Church Service at\u00a06pm, followed at\u00a07pm\u00a0by a celebration of choral excellence which will see local choirs Bangor Ladies Choir, Open Arts Choir, New Irish Youth Choir and Belfast Community Gospel Choir collaborate for a very special concert. Guest soloists Sylvia Burnside and Craig Skene will also be performing accompanied by a house band and string quartet.<\/p>\n<p>On both\u00a0Saturday\u00a0and\u00a0Sunday\u00a0nights at\u00a010.00 pm\u00a0the Town Hall will be used as a spectacular backdrop for a 3d lighting projection show which will transport the audience through a journey reflecting on the last 400 years using visuals reflections to energise Bangor Castle and bring it to life as the story unfolds.<\/p>\n<p>Everyone is welcome to bring a picnic to these events but tea, coffee and an array of other foods will be available on the site.
