{"id":7152,"date":"2014-04-30T10:06:36","date_gmt":"2014-04-30T09:06:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/whatsonni.com\/news\/?p=7152"},"modified":"2014-04-30T10:06:36","modified_gmt":"2014-04-30T09:06:36","slug":"art-of-craft-returns-to-the-market-place-theatre-armagh","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/whatsonni.com\/news\/2014\/04\/art-of-craft-returns-to-the-market-place-theatre-armagh\/","title":{"rendered":"ART OF CRAFT RETURNS TO THE MARKET PLACE THEATRE, ARMAGH"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>The Market Place Theatre in Armagh is welcoming the return of \u2018The Art Of Craft\u2019 exhibition.<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/whatsonni.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/Art-Of-Craft-3.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-7153\" title=\"Art Of Craft (3)\" src=\"https:\/\/whatsonni.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/Art-Of-Craft-3.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"425\" height=\"638\" \/><\/a>This exhibition, showing in the Theatre Gallery, features the work of 23 artists and makers from across Ireland showcasing their unique talents through the creation of works featuring basketry, ceramics, jewellery, mixed media, textiles, bespoke furniture and metal. The exhibition runs from 2 May until 21 June. Visitors to the exhibition will be asked to vote for their favourite piece, and a cash prize of \u00a3300, \u2018The People\u2019s Prize\u2019 will be awarded to the winning Artist\/Designer\/Maker.<\/p>\n<p>The Art of Craft Exhibition is part of The Armagh Craft Fair, which itself will take place on Saturday 24<sup>th<\/sup> May. This high quality event offers something for everyone with even more beautiful and affordable craft, new craft makers, free craft demonstrations, great food, musical entertainment and much more. Armagh Craft Fair features many and varied Craft Stalls, displaying and selling high quality crafts from makers across Ireland. On show will be textiles, jewellery, wood, glass, soaps, ceramics and candles to name but a few.<\/p>\n<p>Also on display will be the exhibition \u2018Returned\u2019 by the artist Maria Morgan. Maria comments \u201cReturned looks at places connected with me and people in my life, and how these can evoke memories. Travelling has given a new perspective on local landscapes. I have revisited places that make me reminisce about my childhood and family. I have also gained a new appreciation for exploring new places within my own area. I initially take photographs or sketches and make notes about the memories or feeling these places generate. The work is then created using paint and mixed media.\u201d \u2018Returned\u2019 will be on display in the Theatre Foyer from Friday 2<sup>nd<\/sup> May until Thursday 22<sup>nd<\/sup> May.<\/p>\n<p>Admission to both exhibitions is free.
