{"id":7353,"date":"2014-05-26T09:44:33","date_gmt":"2014-05-26T08:44:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/whatsonni.com\/news\/?p=7353"},"modified":"2014-05-26T09:46:03","modified_gmt":"2014-05-26T08:46:03","slug":"all-aboard-last-call-for-festival-fun","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/whatsonni.com\/news\/2014\/05\/all-aboard-last-call-for-festival-fun\/","title":{"rendered":"All Aboard &#8211; Last call for Festival Fun"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1>The festival might be in full swing but it\u2019s not too late to get involved and come and experience the Rathlin Sound Maritime Festival 2014.<\/h1>\n<h2>The festival is organised by Moyle District Council, Ballycastle Community Development Group, Rathlin Development and Community Association and sponsored by the Northern Island Tourist Board.<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/whatsonni.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/MARITIME-FESTIVAL-7.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-7356\" title=\"MARITIME FESTIVAL 7\" src=\"https:\/\/whatsonni.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/MARITIME-FESTIVAL-7.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"448\" height=\"302\" \/><\/a>This year the festival runs until Sunday 1<sup>st<\/sup> June, and promises to be a riot of colour and fun whether it\u2019s, the music, the food or of course any of the maritime activities.<\/p>\n<p>Caroline Carey, Tourism Development Officer, Moyle District Council said,\u00a0 \u201cWe are all very excited for the festival to begin so we can welcome visitors to this fabulous part of the Causeway Coast where they can enjoy all the wonderful maritime themed activities on offer.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are of course the obligatory shopping opportunities, from artisan craft in the market to the independent boutiques in the town, specially decorated for the festival we are sure there\u2019s something to suit every taste. \u201c<\/p>\n<p>This is a maritime festival so of course there are numerous sailing experiences to get involved with, whether that\u2019s a fishing trip on Lord Moyle, Lady Lynda or the Torra or getting into your own kayak or paddle boat.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s not too late to grab your camera and skip on board the Round Rathlin Sunset Cruise on Friday 23<sup>rd<\/sup> May, a perfect way to relax into the weekend, sit back, enjoy the live music and float past the fabulous scenery.<\/p>\n<p>However for something just that little bit unique why not climb aboard the majestic Tall Ship, Irene and take to the waves. This is a fantastic opportunity to experience the thrill of sailing from o Ballycastle Harbour on a traditional Tall Ship.<\/p>\n<p>The voyage is at sea for four hours and takes in a tour of the Rathlin Sound, the name of the body of water separating Rathlin Island from the mainland.<\/p>\n<p>The maximum number of passengers allowed on each trip is 10 and the cost is \u00a330 per person.\u00a0 The departure time varies according to the tide each day and there will be sailings everyday from Friday 23<sup>rd<\/sup> May to Sunday 25<sup>th<\/sup>.<\/p>\n<p>Don\u2019t worry if you prefer to stay close to shore, the Irene will be open for visitors from 10am everyday until 30 minutes before sailings depart. On Monday 26<sup>th<\/sup> and Tuesday 27<sup>th<\/sup> May\u00a0 it\u2019s open from 10am until 8pm and it\u2019s absolutely free to come on board. \u00a0Irene will also be open again in the evenings when it is back in Ballycastle harbour until 9.00pm.<\/p>\n<p>The Irene will also be in the harbour for the, \u2018Blessing of The Boats Ceremony\u2019, on Monday 26<sup>th<\/sup> May, at\u00a0 7.00pm, this is an ancient maritime tradition that\u2019s been revived by the festival organisers.
