{"id":7480,"date":"2014-06-12T16:06:11","date_gmt":"2014-06-12T15:06:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/whatsonni.com\/news\/?p=7480"},"modified":"2014-06-12T16:32:23","modified_gmt":"2014-06-12T15:32:23","slug":"unforgettable-night-of-laughs-at-the-lyric","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/whatsonni.com\/news\/2014\/06\/unforgettable-night-of-laughs-at-the-lyric\/","title":{"rendered":"Unforgettable night of laughs at the Lyric"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1>Back by popular demand, this saucy comedy about sex, sectarianism and super-heroes returns to the Lyric in June after a triumphant run in the Naughton Studio last year.<\/h1>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.lyrictheatre.co.uk\/whats-on\/specific\/on-stage\/cant-forget-about-you\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-7481\" title=\"300 x 250\" src=\"https:\/\/whatsonni.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/300-x-250.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"389\" height=\"324\" \/><\/a>Directed by <strong><em>Game of Thrones<\/em><\/strong> and <strong><em>Suits<\/em><\/strong> star Conleth Hill, <strong><em>Can\u2019t Forget About You<\/em><\/strong> tells the hilarious story of a young Belfast man who falls in love with an older, more sophisticated woman much to his narrow-minded family\u2019s horror.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Can\u2019t Forget About You<\/em><\/strong> was written for the Lyric by former Playwright-in-Residence David Ireland, one of Northern Ireland\u2019s hottest young writing talents who is currently under commission to the National Theatre of Scotland, Tinderbox and the Abbey Theatre.<\/p>\n<p>It stars one of Scotland\u2019s best-known comedy actors, Karen Dunbar as Martha the older woman who becomes the object of Belfast man Stevie\u2019s affections, played by Declan Rodgers from Dundrum, Co Down (<strong><em>Ashes to Ashes<\/em><\/strong>).<\/p>\n<p>When the 25-year-old self-professed Buddhist, falls for 49-year-old Martha he faces the wrath of his ultra-conservative mother, played by Carol Moore (<strong><em>Macbeth<\/em><\/strong>) and fanatical Ulster-Scots speaking sister played by Abigail McGibbon (<strong><em>Nivelli\u2019s War<\/em><\/strong>). To add to his misery his new romance is not welcomed by his on-off girlfriend, Ciara played by Naomi Rocke (<strong><em>Cinderella<\/em>).<em><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>While it is a case of sex at first sight, the unlikely couple find themselves falling in love. Buddhism, fish suppers, and sectarianism \u2026<strong><em>Can\u2019t Forget About You<\/em><\/strong><em> <\/em>is a play about two people re-imagining their future and getting over the past. Oh, and super-hero themed fantasy role-play!<\/p>\n<p>Director, Conleth Hill, who hails originally from Ballycastle, has enjoyed a very successful career on stage and screen including an acclaimed run in the original Lyric production of <em>Stones in his Pockets <\/em>by Marie Jones<em> <\/em>which went on to conquer the West End and Broadway<em>.<\/em> He had further success starring in the Northern Ireland Short Film, <em>The Shore<\/em> which won an Oscar in 2012.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am very happy to be back at the Lyric with David Ireland&#8217;s brilliant comedy <strong><em>Can&#8217;t Forget About You<\/em><\/strong>,\u201d Conleth said. \u201cThe transition from the Naughton Studio to the main Danske Bank stage is made all the smoother by the fact we have\u00a0the same fantastic cast, crew and creative team coming together again.
