{"id":8832,"date":"2015-03-26T17:05:59","date_gmt":"2015-03-26T16:05:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/whatsonni.com\/news\/?p=8832"},"modified":"2015-03-26T17:05:59","modified_gmt":"2015-03-26T16:05:59","slug":"treasure-trash","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/whatsonni.com\/news\/2015\/03\/treasure-trash\/","title":{"rendered":"Treasure Trash!"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1>What does a recycled coffee bean bag or a notice board made from an up-cycled curtain look like?<\/h1>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/whatsonni.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/Screen-Shot-2015-03-26-at-11.59.08.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-8833\" title=\"Screen Shot 2015-03-26 at 11.59.08\" src=\"https:\/\/whatsonni.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/Screen-Shot-2015-03-26-at-11.59.08.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"250\" height=\"167\" \/><\/a>Where can you find out how to make loo roll creatures with googly eyes or touch a giant lobster made from recycled tyres?<\/p>\n<p>Find out the answers to these questions and more at Treasure Trash this weekend.<\/p>\n<p>Works of art will be in abundance throughout the Crescent Arts Centre on Saturday 28 March from 12noon to 5pm during this innovative Outreach &amp; Education event.<\/p>\n<p>The aim of this free event is to actively demonstrate and encourage reusing and up-cycling household waste products, transforming them into useful items, toys or pieces of art!\u00a0 No need to throw your stuff away, with a little bit of imagination and learning a new skill you will be amazed at what you can make from rubbish.<\/p>\n<p>One local artist will be asking for lots of audience participation.\u00a0 Fionnuala Duffin will be making a collaborative piece of wall hanging art with the public, which will go on display in the Crescent Arts Centre after the event. It will be made from recycled &amp; up-cycled materials, especially bubble wrap.\u00a0 Participants will fill the bubbles with old yarn, ribbons, found objects and will have the opportunity to write messages inside the piece of art.<\/p>\n<p>Find out more about Street Gems-Belfast, a new cooperative based in the Welcome Organisation, a centre for the homeless.\u00a0 This organisation works with homeless people in a number of areas including furniture restoration and up-cycling, textiles, ceramics, jewellery and general crafts. Their aim is to help generate change through creativity, transform lives, build confidence and self esteem as well as teach participants creative skills.<\/p>\n<p>During the day live demonstrations by artists will be interspersed with a treasure hunt, up-cycling demonstrations, puppet storytelling, drop-in creative workshops and many other activities.\u00a0\u00a0 Why not take this opportunity to sit with your children and learn to make loo roll creatures or gigantic pom-poms to take home.<\/p>\n<p>This event runs on Saturday 28 March from 12noon \u2013 5pm.\u00a0 Entry is FREE and is funded by Belfast City Council&#8217;s Zero Waste Grant.
