Series of events planned to mark one of Armagh\u2019s leading figures<\/em><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Armagh commemorates life, death and burial of Ireland\u2019s last High King<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>This month, locals and visitors alike are invited to Armagh to celebrate the life and times of Brian Bor\u00fa, Ireland\u2019s last and greatest High King, as part of a festival celebration in Ireland\u2019s ecclesiastical capital, Armagh.<\/p>\n

Following last year\u2019s 1,000-year anniversary of the death of Brian Bor\u00fa, who is buried in the grounds of Armagh\u2019s iconic Saint Patrick\u2019s Cathedral, and, due to overwhelming demand, the High King\u2019s legacy will be honoured again on Tuesday 28th<\/sup> and Wednesday 29th<\/sup> April 2015 with an exciting programme of cultural events.<\/p>\n

Harnessing the rich local artistic talent and historical expertise which Armagh is famous for the world over, visitors to the city have the opportunity to get a glimpse into the life of Ireland\u2019s greatest warrior.<\/p>\n

On Tuesday 28th<\/sup> April, a Brian Bor\u00fa Legacy Sculpture<\/strong> will be unveiled in the gardens of Saint Patrick\u2019s Church of Ireland Cathedral. At 7.30pm, \u2018The Waking of Brian Bor\u00fa \u2013 The Poet\u2019s Story\u2019 <\/strong>\u2013 will attract visitors for a musical drama telling Brian Bor\u00fa\u2019s story.<\/p>\n

The ticketed performance uses song, dance, drama and music to conjure up images of a time long-gone, and with the unique setting of Bor\u00fa\u2019s final resting place, this historic event promises to create thrilling, spine-tingling theatre.<\/p>\n

<\/strong><\/p>\n

On Wednesday 29th<\/sup> April, two special events will use the unique settings of Armagh Observatory <\/strong>and the Hill of Armagh<\/strong> with their resident experts to give visitors a glimpse into Brian Bor\u00fa\u2019s world.<\/p>\n

One of the highlights of the celebration will be the Brian Bor\u00fa Feast <\/strong>at the Navan Centre and Fort <\/strong>on the evening of Wednesday 29th<\/sup> Apri which will feature a thrilling re-enactment of Brian Bor\u00fa and his compatriots celebrating the success of their march through the area during which they gathered slaves, livestock, gold and silver. The Brian Bor\u00fa Feast<\/strong> will take place on Wednesday 29th<\/sup> April from 7.00pm to 9.30pm.<\/p>\n

Lord Mayor, Councillor Darryn Causby, said:<\/p>\n

\u201cThe legacy which Brian Bor\u00fa has left on Armagh is evident to the present day and the 2015 celebration events provide a unique opportunity to commemorate his enduring history and legacy.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cFrom community performances to special events at our wonderful visitor attractions, I would encourage everyone to come along to as many of the events as possible, even if they\u2019re not aware of the history of Brian Bor\u00fa, as this is a great opportunity to learn about one of Armagh\u2019s ancient figures.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n
