{"id":8982,"date":"2015-04-20T07:23:37","date_gmt":"2015-04-20T06:23:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/whatsonni.com\/news\/?p=8982"},"modified":"2015-04-20T07:23:37","modified_gmt":"2015-04-20T06:23:37","slug":"armagh-celebrates-brian-boru-ireland%e2%80%99s-greatest-high-king","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/whatsonni.com\/news\/2015\/04\/armagh-celebrates-brian-boru-ireland%e2%80%99s-greatest-high-king\/","title":{"rendered":"ARMAGH CELEBRATES BRIAN BORU, IRELAND\u2019S GREATEST HIGH KING"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1><strong><em>Series of events planned to mark one of Armagh\u2019s leading figures<\/em><\/strong><\/h1>\n<p><strong><em> <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Armagh commemorates life, death and burial of Ireland\u2019s last High King<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/whatsonni.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/pressrelease15.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-8983\" title=\"pressrelease\" src=\"https:\/\/whatsonni.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/pressrelease15.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"299\" height=\"448\" \/><\/a>This month, locals and visitors alike are invited to Armagh to celebrate the life and times of Brian Bor\u00fa, Ireland\u2019s last and greatest High King, as part of a festival celebration in Ireland\u2019s ecclesiastical capital, Armagh.<\/p>\n<p>Following last year\u2019s 1,000-year anniversary of the death of Brian Bor\u00fa, who is buried in the grounds of Armagh\u2019s iconic Saint Patrick\u2019s Cathedral, and, due to overwhelming demand, the High King\u2019s legacy will be honoured again on Tuesday 28<sup>th<\/sup> and Wednesday 29<sup>th<\/sup> April 2015 with an exciting programme of cultural events.<\/p>\n<p>Harnessing the rich local artistic talent and historical expertise which Armagh is famous for the world over, visitors to the city have the opportunity to get a glimpse into the life of Ireland\u2019s greatest warrior.<\/p>\n<p>On Tuesday 28<sup>th<\/sup> April, a <strong>Brian Bor\u00fa Legacy Sculpture<\/strong> will be unveiled in the gardens of Saint Patrick\u2019s Church of Ireland Cathedral. At 7.30pm, \u2018<strong>The Waking of Brian Bor\u00fa \u2013 The Poet\u2019s Story\u2019 <\/strong>\u2013 will attract visitors for a musical drama telling Brian Bor\u00fa\u2019s story.<\/p>\n<p>The ticketed performance uses song, dance, drama and music to conjure up images of a time long-gone, and with the unique setting of Bor\u00fa\u2019s final resting place, this historic event promises to create thrilling, spine-tingling theatre.<\/p>\n<p><strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>On Wednesday 29<sup>th<\/sup> April, two special events will use the unique settings of <strong>Armagh Observatory <\/strong>and the<strong> Hill of Armagh<\/strong> with their resident experts to give visitors a glimpse into Brian Bor\u00fa\u2019s world.<\/p>\n<p>One of the highlights of the celebration will be the <strong>Brian Bor\u00fa Feast <\/strong>at the <strong>Navan Centre and Fort <\/strong>on the evening of Wednesday 29<sup>th<\/sup> Apri which will feature a thrilling re-enactment of Brian Bor\u00fa and his compatriots celebrating the success of their march through the area during which they gathered slaves, livestock, gold and silver.
