FAR WOULD YOU GO TO WIN A DIAMOND?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Diamond Quest Ireland<\/strong> comes to Newry, Mourne and Carlingford on Saturday 15th May 2010, challenging participants to push themselves to the limit in an exhilarating running, biking and kayaking race.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p><strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_981\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-981\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><strong><strong><a rel=\"attachment wp-att-981\" href=\"http:\/\/www.whatsonni.com\/blog\/?attachment_id=981\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-981\" title=\"Julian and all girls 1\" src=\"http:\/\/www.whatsonni.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/Julian-and-all-girls-1-300x210.jpg\" alt=\"Julian and all the girls!\" width=\"300\" height=\"210\" \/><\/a><\/strong><\/strong><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-981\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Julian and all the girls!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>Diamond Quest Ireland<\/strong>, now in its second year, was established to raise funds for The African Schools Trust.\u00a0 The charity, set up by a Northern Irish couple, supports 1,000 disadvantaged Kenyan children and, competitors will not only be supporting The African Schools Trust but will have the chance to win a dazzling diamond and a range of cash prizes.<\/p>\n<p>The scenic but punishing race begins with a 15km run from King John\u2019s Castle in Carlingford up the Cooley Mountains and across forest tracks, where, from Omeath, kayaks will take competitors 1km across Carlingford Lough to Warrenpoint.\u00a0 From Warrenpoint it\u2019s a 45km cycle through the Mournes and back to the all important finishing line.<\/p>\n<p>The action packed race to challenge strength, stamina and agility has been designed by Adventure Ireland and Causeway coast Adventure Racing on behalf of The African Schools Trust.<\/p>\n<p>Lucy Jaffa, African Schools Trust trustee, said: \u201cWe provide food daily to children from four schools in the Nairobi slums in Kenya.\u00a0 With the charity\u2019s much needed assistance, attendance has improved and record numbers are graduating from the slum\u2019s secondary schools.\u00a0 The African Schools Trust has already purchased books, paid teachers\u2019 salaries, improved school buildings, purchased school land and contributed to the building of a school.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have been inundated with offers of help for the charity but we think <strong>Diamond Quest Ireland <\/strong>is an innovative and fun way for people to raise funds for The African Schools Trust and enjoy a
