Loughview Lodge

Loughview Lodge is a spacious, detached, one bedroom house situated on The Blackhead Coastal Path, just outside Whitehead, on the world famous Causeway Coastal Route. It is off a private lane which is relatively quiet and safe. The Lodge is situated on a large, secluded site and you have exclusive use of a large garden with mature trees. The Blackhead Lighthouse is a leisurely 10 minute walk.

There are spectacular sea views from the upstairs living room where you can watch the ferries and cruise ships passing by. Scotland can be seen in the distance on a good day.  The village of Whitehead is a short drive away and hosts a bakery, a butchers, a fruit and vegetable shop, a grocery store with a post office and liquor section, 2 pharmacies, several cafes and restaurants and a tourist information centre.

The Lodge is tastefully decorated with the intention to provide visitors with a welcomimg, comforting feeling. Quality soft furnishings are designed to enhance the feeling that you are entering a comforting space where we value your stay in our home, created solely for your visit.

The bedroom is downstairs and has a continental size double bed with hypoallergenic cotton beddding and two moveable single beds. A cozy throw dresses the main bed. There are charging points and lights at each of the beds and a continental adaptor can be found in the drawer. 

Upstairs is a large, spacious, airy, open plan livivng/dining room. A double bed settee can be set up for two guests in the corner of the room. There is a table and chairs with seating for 6 people or this can be used as a work station. Wi-Fi is provided. There are two large, comfortable leather sofas dressed with cozy throws and cushions as well as a 55" smart TV including Netflix. In the back corner of the room is a cozy reading corner with a selection of books, a pouffe for your feet, a dresser with board games, a phone charging station and an alexa sound speaker. Chill out and listen to the birds in the garden in the summer, it is a very quiet, peaceful area.

Downstairs, the bathroom has a large quadrant shower with a drenching shower head. Water pressure is excellent. Above the sink is an illuminated mirror with a shaving point. Fluffy towels and washcloths are provide for each guest.

The compact kitchen is also downstairs and is equipped with an oven, hob, extractor fan, integrated fridge, microwave, toaster, kettle and a Tassimo coffee maker with complimentary coffee/hot chocloate pods. It is well stocked with crockery, saucepans, cooking utensis and a selection of wine, beer, gin and whiskey glasses.

We leave each booking a complimentary Welcome Basket consisting of: - A selection of cereals, milk, butter, jams and marmalade, locally made Wheaten bread, biscuits, a selection of teas, and coffee for the cafetiere.

Downstairs is an integral storage area which is secure and can be used for drying off wet coats or wetsuits or for additional hanging space. It houses the washing machine, tumble dryer, freezer and an extra fridge, useful for storing wine or beer. You will also find a backpack picnic hamper, a cool box and freezer packs in the freezer, should you wish to take a picnic with you. It can be used to store bicycles, golf clubs or kayaks safely.

There is free parking for up to 4 cars.

A 10 minute stroll will take you to the Blackhead Lighthouse and there are several walking trails in the area.  At the bottom of the lane, a short walk away, 115 steps will take you down to the shore. Turn left and follow the path to the Blacknead Lighthouse, or turn right and a 15 minute walk will take you to Whitehead Village.

It is an ideal base for visiting local attractions such as the Gobbins Cliff Path, known as The Most Dramatic Coastal Walk in Europe, just 1.2 miles away, (please pre-book tours and bring walking boots). Whitehead Village, Portmuck Harbour, where you can have a try at stand up paddle boarding and Browns Bay Beach are all a short drive.You can hire ebikes for half a day or more from the Whitehead Centre tourist hub, take a tour of the Whitehead Railway Musem, play tennis on the municipal tennis courts or take a walk round The Diamond Jubilee Wood. 

In Belfast, The Titanic Visitor Centre, The Crown Bar and The Cathedral Quarter are a 30 minutes drive. Further afield is The World famous Giant's Causeway, the magnificent beach of Portstewart Strand where you can drive onto the beach and spend the day having a picnic, bbq or play with your children. The Dark Hedges made famous by the TV series Game Of Thrones are a one hour drive from The Lodge. 

From 13-20 July 2025 Royal Portrush will host The 153rd Open golf championship, watched by millions across the world. It is 60 miles or 1hr 14mins from us.

Whitehead Golf Club is an 18 hole golf course and is just along the lane. The Lodge backs onto the 12th Green of the course. Visitors are welcome to play, tee times can be booked online or if you just fancy a meal or a drink, the restaurant and bar are open to visitors. No need to order a taxi home!

Belfast is a 30 minute drive or take the train from Whitehead station where you can park for free in the park n ride. From Lanyon Place station a complimentary bus will drop you off in the city centre in a few minutes.

Self check in is via a lockbox beside the private entrance. We live next door and are on hand should you need any assistance with anything, however The Lodge is very private and you have your own space to relax and enjoy the property.


Directions from Town

Whitehead train station is approximately 1 mile away. It offers a park and ride facility where you can park for free. The station has a direct link to Belfast in 30 minutes. George Best Belfast City Airport is 19 miles/41minutes drive and Belfast International Airport is 26 miles/52minutes away.
