Dan Gordon (John Hume) and Ruairi Conaghan (David Trimble) led the cast of ‘Agreement’, the recent award-winning political drama by Owen McCafferty exploring the negotiations that culminated in the Good Friday Agreement and highlighted the complexities and personalities of those involved.
Dan and Ruairi will be ‘in conversation’ with Brian Rowan discussing how they approached playing such well-known real-life characters; their research into the political minefield of the time; and the intersection between politics and personalities explored in ‘Agreement’ - and much, much more.
Dan is an actor, director and writer. Recent television roles include Spinster (RTA best comedy 2025), Blue Lights 2, and The Paddy Raff Show. Theatre credits include, A Christmas Carol (Lyric Theatre, Belfast), The Quiet Man (Civic Theatre, Tallaght), and Static (The Peacock Theatre, Dublin).
He wrote and directed Belfast Blitz - It’ll Never Happen Here (W5, Belfast) and the one-woman shows Absolutely Flabulous (Irish tour) for Sheridan Productions and Truth, Love or Promise (Irish tour) for McKeever Productions. He is directing Tea in a China Cup for the Lyric Theatre Belfast, opening in May.
Dan served as Trustee of Arts and Business NI and The Lyric Theatre. He was an Associate Artist for Prison Arts, and was a weekly columnist for the Sunday Life Newspaper. He is Patron of Bruiser Theatre Company and regularly lends support to the Youth Justice Agency, the Probation Board NI, NIACRO, and the Integrated Education Fund.
Ruairi Conaghan is a Northern Irish actor and writer whose work spans the West End, Broadway and leading theatres across the UK and Ireland including the National Theatre, London and the Lyric Theatre, Belfast. He has appeared extensively on screen in productions such as Downtown Abbey, Silent Witness, Waking the Dead and The Catherine Tate Show and has worked with many of the most acclaimed directors of his generation, performing opposite actors including Benedict Cumberbatch. As a writer-performer, his one-man play Lies Where it Falls has toured widely earning awards nominations and praise for its honesty and emotional power.
Brian Rowan is a former BBC correspondent in Belfast. Since the late 1980s he has reported on all the major developments on Northern Ireland's journey from war to peace; stories he has told using a range of sources - IRA, loyalist, police, military, intelligence, political, Church and others.
He left the BBC in 2005, the year the IRA ended its armed campaign. Four times he has been a category winner in the Northern Ireland Press and Broadcast awards, including twice as Specialist Journalist of the Year. Join us for what is sure to be a very thought provoking conversation.
