Storytelling, Fiddles and Stew is a charming event that combines the spoken word, good music and tasty food, all things Ireland is synonymous with. The Seancaithe (the Aged) and Scéalaí (the Narrator) were the bearers of Irish traditional stories. Important characters in Ireland's cultural past, they passed the old stories down through the generations.
This special evening recounts some of these stories, told by 'the storyteller's storyteller', John Makem. From Keady in Armagh, John is known for having started the Bard of Armagh Festival in 1995. Steeped in the traditions of storytelling and music, John wanted " to keep the tradition of storytelling alive by gathering bards to Armagh. The Festival has people coming from all over the world bringing with them every tradition of storytelling."
Relax and as you listen to these tales, enjoy the experience even more with some warm Irish stew made by the Charlemont Hotel's talented chef. This will be served on arrival. Between the stories, music will be performed by award winning duo, siblings Méabh & Tiarnán Smyth. A distinguished soloist, Méabh was the inaugural Ed Reavy Fiddle Player of the Year as well as being crowned the 2021 Fiddler of London. This event will last 3 hours.
