For our next lecture we are pleased to have NIAAS member Dr. David Lisk along to give us a talk titled ‘Deep space Imaging using a Seestar Robotic Telescope‘. This lecture will take place in our usual venue of Ballyclare High School Lecture Theatre and will take place on Monday 13th April 2026, starting at 8pm sharp.

About the talk: This talk examines the equipment, and explains the techniques, which can be used to capture and process deep space images of galaxies, nebula and distant star fields. This new generation of small, computer-controlled telescopes incorporate sophisticated software which allow the enthusiastic amateur to take high quality images of objects tens of millions of light-years from Earth.

About David: David is a keen amateur astronomer with interests in Astrophysics and Astronomical Spectroscopy and he has had articles published in several Astronomy magazines. He is a retired Head of Informatics and Technology at a Higher Education College where he lectured in a range of subjects including Applied Science. He has just recently published his first novel, a fast paced action thriller and he is now busy writing the sequel.

These smart telescopes have been around for a few years, however I have to admit, I don’t actually know very much about them. I’m sure I’m not alone in this, so like me I think this is a very timely lecture to discover the wonders in this new technology.

David is a great lecturer and I hope you can come along and remember tea, coffee and chat are available after the lecture.
