Ballywillan Drama Group presents Brian Friel’s Dancing at Lughnasa at Flowerfield Arts Centre, Portstewart, from Thursday 24 September to Saturday 26 September 2026.
“Dancing as if language had surrendered to movement, as if this ritual, this wordless ceremony, was now the way to speak.”
Step back in time with Brian Friel’s multi-award-winning masterpiece, a spellbinding story of memory, family, music and longing.
Set in the golden, fading days of the summer of 1936, Dancing at Lughnasa invites audiences into the lives of the five Mundy sisters in rural County Donegal. As the harvest festival approaches, the arrival of their first wireless radio, affectionately named “Marconi”, sparks a brief and dazzling explosion of music, dance and suppressed feeling.
Friel’s beautiful and deeply moving play explores love, faith, poverty, memory and the fragile balance between social expectation and the wild, untamed rhythms of the heart.
Ballywillan Drama Group is delighted to bring this much-loved Irish classic to the celebrated stage of Flowerfield Arts Centre, Portstewart, in a production filled with exquisite storytelling, joy and heartbreak.
