Join North Coast Book Club and award-winning Belfast writer Jan Carson for an evening of storytelling and discussion around her new novel, Few & Far Between. Set in an imagined Northern Ireland, Jan’s novel follows the last residents of the Lough Neagh Archipelago as they face eviction, a looming flood, and the challenge of leaving the past behind. Haunted islands, a community in turmoil, and secrets that won’t stay buried — it’s a captivating exploration of place, memory, and resilience.

Whether you’ve already picked up a copy or are curious to hear Jan speak before diving in, all are welcome to this relaxed and inspiring conversation in our Auditorium.

About Jan Carson:

Jan Carson is a Belfast-based writer whose work spans novels, short stories, and micro-fiction. Her novel The Fire Starters won the EU Prize for Literature for Ireland in 2019. Her latest works include The Raptures (2022) and Quickly, While They Still Have Horses (2024). Jan is the Seamus Heaney Centre Fellow at Queen’s University Belfast (2025) and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature. She has also adapted The Velveteen Rabbit for the stage. Her writing has been broadcast on BBC Radio 3 and 4 and RTE. Few & Far Between, her forthcoming novel, promises a spellbinding exploration of history, place, and the human spirit.
