June Stars & Stones Explored
June’s Stars and Stones Explored will be marking the Summer Solstice with a special daytime lunar observing session in our Observatory. Explore the waxing Moon and observe its features with our range of telescopes and binoculars while we talk you through the lunar theory for the Beaghmore Stones. Ancient stone sites throughout Britain and Ireland were aligned to the Moon or the Sun, and sometimes both – our astronomy team will explain why the Summer Solstice sunrise was important, and we’ll use our special solar telescopes to look at the Sun as well.
This event starts with a delicious picnic and refreshments before following the Solar Walk from OM over to the Beaghmore Stone Circles. The total walk will be just under 4 miles. Please wear suitable footwear and clothing. Dress weather appropriate as this event is outdoors and subject to weather. Observing is weather dependent.
