Ecos Nature Park

Woodland Paths and Open Meadows -  Visitors can stroll through well-maintained trails, passing by scenic woodlands, open meadows, and wildflower areas. The park’s trails are suitable for all ages and fitness levels. 

River Walk -  There is a picturesque lake at the heart of the park, home to an array of bird species. The lakeside offers tranquil views, perfect for walking, jogging, or simply enjoying the surroundings. 

Accessibility - Some of the main trails, particularly those around the lakes and through the woodland areas, are suitable for wheelchair users and individuals with limited mobility. These paths are wide, flat, and surfaced with smooth materials. There are benches and rest spots along the trails to ensure that visitors can take breaks if needed.

The park’s natural environment offers a rich sensory experience, with the sounds of wildlife, the sight of the water and woodland, and seasonal changes, which can provide a soothing and engaging experience for individuals with sensory needs.

To enjoy Ecos Nature Park safely and responsibly, please: 

Be aware of unrestricted stretches of open water along the river and lake – children should be supervised by an adult at all times. 

At certain times of the year, paths may be closed during periodic flooding. 

Be mindful of coming into contact with open water. Leptospirosis, known as Weil’s disease, is a bacterial infection caught from natural water bodies. If you feel unwell after being in contact with open water, inform your GP immediately. 

Ensure your dog is under close control at all times and use the dog bins provided


Opening times

Park grounds open 24 hours.
The Secret Garden Cafe and toilets within the Ecos building open 9:00 - 17:00 Monday to Sunday.


Directions from Town

Take a train to Ballymena Train Station. From Ballymena Station, ECOS Nature Park is a 5-minute drive or a 25-30 minute walk.

You can take a bus from Belfast’s Grand Central Station to Ballymena. The journey takes about an hour. Local buses from Ballymena town centre, such as routes that stop near the Broughshane Road area, can bring you closer to the park.


Getting to the start by car

Ecos Nature Park is about a 40-minute drive from Belfast via the M2 motorway. Take the exit toward Ballymena/Broughshane from the M2, and follow signs to ECOS Centre.
