Glenarm Castle & Garden

Glenarm Castle is one of few country estates that remains privately owned but open to the public. It is steeped in a wealth of history, culture and heritage and attracts over 100,000 visitors annually from all over the world.

In November 2023, Glenarm Castle Walled Garden won the Historic Houses 2023 Garden of the Year Award, sponsored by Christie’s. This was the first time a garden from Northern Ireland was shortlisted and subsequently crowned winner of this prestigious national UK award.   Visitors can enjoy enchanted walks through the Walled Garden and Woodland Walk, learn the history of the family in the Antrim McDonnell Heritage Centre, indulge in an amazing lunch in the Tea Room, purchase some local produce or official merchandise, or browse through several unique and quirky retail shops- with many ranges exclusive to Glenarm Castle.

There is much more to discover at Glenarm Castle throughout the year for the entire family including a dazzling programme of action packed events; from the colourful Tulip Festival in May and a spooky night to remember at Halloween, to the magical and magnificent Christmas at Glenarm Castle event in December.

Glenarm Castle Guided Tours

Step inside centuries of living history during the 2026 Castle Tour season at Glenarm Castle, the ancestral home of the McDonnell family, Earls of Antrim.  Still a cherished private residence of the Earl and Countess of Antrim and their family, Glenarm Castle opens its doors on select dates, offering visitors a rare and intimate glimpse into life behind its historic walls.  Guided by the family butler and house staff, your tour brings the castle’s stories vividly to life as you explore the elegant Drawing Room, grand Dining Room, atmospheric Blue Room, and the Castle’s striking Great Hall. Each space reveals generations of heritage, tradition, and personal history woven into the fabric of the castle. From 17th March to 1st November*, complete your visit with a stroll through the enchanting 17th-century Walled Garden, a tranquil and beautifully restored space that adds another layer of discovery to your day.

Please note: Garden access is subject to ground and weather conditions. Discounted rates apply when the Walled Garden is unavailable, including during private garden bookings or the off-season (early November to mid-March). Tours are limited and advance booking is essential.
