Slieve Gullion Forest Park, Adventure Playpark and Fionn's Giant Adventure

Set in the heart of the Ring of Gullion, Slieve Gullion Forest Park is one of Northern Ireland’s most magical family destinations. Known as Ireland’s Mountain of Mystery, the park offers an unforgettable mix of outdoor adventure, enchanting storytelling, and beautiful natural scenery—perfect for families looking for a full day of fun.

The perfect start to any family trip to the Forest Park begins at the Slieve Gullion Adventure Playpark, an award-winning space designed to entertain children of all ages. Little ones can enjoy the specially designed toddler area, while older adventurers take on climbing frames, slides, the famous Slieve Gullion ZIP, and a fun outdoor gym. Families can explore the maze, stop by the Wishing Chair to make a wish, and enjoy well-placed picnic areas ideal for lunchtime breaks. The playpark has won several accolades, including the Green Apple Environment Award and recognition at the Northern Ireland Tourism Awards.

Right beside the playpark is the park’s famous family attraction: Fionn’s Giant Adventure, a magical, free story trail inspired by local myths and legends. This immersive trail invites children to step into a world of giants, fairies, dragons, witches, and woodland creatures. Fairy houses, sculpted story scenes, and interactive features create a living storybook experience that sparks imagination at every turn. With winding paths, enchanted nooks, and characters from Irish folklore woven throughout, it’s a must-do adventure for families with young explorers. The trail takes you into plenty of nooks and crannies so a backpack carrier or baby sling is recommended for tots.

Beyond the playpark and story trail, families can enjoy the 10km Scenic Forest Drive, which offers spectacular viewpoints across the Ring of Gullion, Mourne Mountains, and Cooley Peninsula. For those with a bit more energy, waymarked walking routes lead to historic cairns, peaceful woodland paths, and the famous Lake of Sorrows—each steeped in over 2,000 years of legend.

The Slieve Gullion Courtyard, set in the midst of the park is home to an extremely popular café where you can enjoy delicious treats, as well as the wildlife pond – an essential stop off after a busy morning walking or exploring the Adventure Playpark or Fionn's Giant Adenture. Slieve Gullion Visitor Information Centre is located beside the main car park and the Adventure Playpark.

With a friendly Visitor Information Centre, nearby café courtyard, and a wide range of walking routes and picnic areas, Slieve Gullion Forest Park is the ideal day out for families, nature lovers, and anyone looking to enjoy one of Northern Ireland’s most magical landscapes. Perfect for outdoor play, storytelling adventures, scenic walks, and family fun
