Take a scenic, historical and at times fast boat trip down Strangford Lough, soaking in the myths, legends and folklore of the largest sea inlet in these islands, followed by an indulgence of Scandinavian-inspired baked treats from one of NI’s finest artisan kitchens in Portaferry, Fjord Bakery, founded on the shores of the lough from which its name is derived. Fjord, as in Strong Fjord, named by the Vikings when they arrived in 800 AD, endures as much as their legacy in this magical place.

Among the treats on offer are locally foraged crackers and produce from the shores, including kelp crackers and sea-sourced goodies.

Tea, coffee, scones and buns consumed, enjoy the run back through many of the three hundred and sixty five islands. This is a tour linking two parts of this special borough, from one side of the lough to its protective peninsula, complete with one of the very best in baking.

Safety restrictions - This experience is NOT suitable for anyone with epilepsy, back or spine issues, anyone who is pregnant and anyone with any other known issues that might be affected by the impact of wave (Whole Body Vibration).  Participants will be required to confirm to the provider that they are not affected by any of the above before boarding the boat.  If you have a family history of osteoporosis or are unsure of whether your medical condition may place you at risk, please consult your physician before booking. 

Age restrictions -  Minimum age 3 yrs.  All U16s must be accompanied by an adult and also purchase a full price ticket.

Please wear appropriate clothing and footwear for the boat trip.

What to bring - Sunscreen, hats, waterproofs (if you have them – they can be provided but you will be more comfortable and glamorous in your own). Soft shoes, no high heels. Wear warm clothing! Specialist lifejackets are provided, please do not bring your own.

Participants must be able to use an (at times) steep walkway to the pontoons, and also to be able to get into and out of the boat at both Portaferry Marina and at Sketrick Marina.

Please note that Strangford Lough Activity Centre keep a close eye on the forecast and may suggest possible amendments to your booking to make the experience as enjoyable as possible. If the event needs to be cancelled due to bad weather, a new date may be offered. If these alternative arrangements do not suit ticketholders, a full refund will be offered.   Please remember that this is a fast RIB trip that can be bumpy and wet at times. Access is via a pontoon which at low tide can be steep.

Dietary requirements Please ensure that you check with all members of your party regarding food allergies, intolerances, and dietary requirements prior to booking tickets. Getting there

By Car: From Belfast take the A23 towards Ballygowan.  Continue straight onto the Moss Road/ Ballydunden Road.  Follow the A22 towards Killinchy and the Whiterock Road.  At the end of the Whiterock road turn left onto Whiterock Bay.  Continue along Whiterock Bay until approaching bridge on the right.  Follow the bridge to Sketrick Island, destination on the left.

Parking is beside or in front of the Castle. Leave the tepee village to your right and walk up a gentle slope towards a green cabin. You will see the stockade and our boat to your left.

Roadside parking is available at Whiterock, this is limited so please leave plenty of time for your journey and arrival.

Accessibility                                                                                                                                  Accessibility should be discussed directly with Andy before booking on the number above. Those with severe back injuries should contact us, or anyone with limited mobility should contact Andy Martin 07938 517 009 to discuss options. We shall do our best to accommodate and we have had wheelchair users on board before, but will need advance discussion. This experience is not suitable for anyone who is six months or more pregnant.                                                                   

Carers  Where practicable providers within the Experience Programme will aim to accommodate carers and be as inclusive as possible. With such a diverse range of activities, operated by a number of providers, it is necessary for this to be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
