Dr James O’Neill’s focues on battlefields across South Tyrone, and will examine a timeline stretching from the early Christian period to the Battle of Benburb in 1646.  His talk will include an examination of the sites associated with the Nine Years’ War, in particular, the Battle of the Yellow Ford in 1598.

 

Dr James O’Neill is a historian and an alumnus of Queen’s University, Belfast. He completed a two year post-doctorate fellowship in the School of History, University College Cork, before returning to Belfast where he now works as a heritage consultant, specialising in battlefield/conflict archaeology. Dr O’Neill is the author of “The Nine Years War, 1594-1603: O'Neill, Mountjoy and the Military Revolution”.
