Travel back in time many thousands of years to a time where stone was the centre of everyday life.
Learn about our first technology and industry and why the ancient craft of flint knapping was so important to life in prehistoric Ireland.
Join Paul Moore the owner of wild walk Bushcraft as he demonstrates, through the practical application of this ancient craft, why stone was so important.
On the day Paul will be demonstrating and discussing:
• Flint: what it is, where it comes from and why it was used. • Percussion flaking: how to create tools like hand axes and chisels, • Pressure flaking: The delicate intricate art of producing and retouching tools like spear heads, stone knives and projectile points. • Abrading • Indirect percussion • Our Mesolithic ancestors and their tools • Our Neolithic ancestors and their tools • Ancient cordage, Glues and skins
Paul will have a collection of some of his work along for you to look and hold to really gain an insight into the life of our Prehistoric ancestors.
Uncover a world that time forgot and see how it will awaken your inner Mesolithic mind!
This is a free drop-in family event. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Everyone welcome!
