Final Fling in the Causeway Coast and Glens

There’s still plenty of time to plan a family trip to the Causeway Coast and Glens, full of fun, adventure and entertainment Whether you’re looking for a short activity break or an extended stay, we’ve got what you want.

The bumper events programme continues throughout August. Cruisers and dinghies will be battling for position off the Portrush shores on 15th and 16th during the 2015 Portrush Regatta, while the Causeway Truck Fest rolls into Portrush on Sunday 16th with a static display of these monster vehicles at the NW200 Paddock, followed by a cavalcade through the town.

On Friday, 16th, Go Wild with the Ranger at Downhill Demesne for a morning of fun and adventure – and it’s free. The National Trust Rangers will be on hand to complete some of your 50 things to do before you’re 11¾.  There’s lots more fun to be had at Roe Valley Arts & Cultural Centre on Saturday, 22nd when kids can let their imagination run wild at the Dragons and Dinosaurs Workshop followed by a special showing of Where The Wild Things Are.  The whole family will enjoy one of the busiest weekends of the year in Portrush at the North West Pipe Band Championships on 21st and 22nd and don’t forget to save some energy for the Lammas Fair which takes to the streets of Ballycastle on Monday, 24th and Tuesday, 25th August for two days of trading, busking, entertainment and the local delicacies – Yellowman and dulse.

The Bank Holiday Weekend is going to be a busy one, with the entertaining Causeway Coast Mini Weekend hitting the roads at Bushmills and Portrush and the Causeway Coast Surf Festival catching the waves in Portrush. If you’re feeling fit you will search hard to find a more unique or spectacular backdrop for a 5k or 10 mile race than the Rathlin Run on Rathlin Island on Saturday, 29th August.

The final fling of summer sees two days of fast and furious air displays and entertainment at Air Waves Portrush on 5th and 6th September with the Red Arrows on both days, The Blades, the RAF Typhoon and lots more.

RED BULL FOXHUNT RETURNS – THE CHASE IS ON!

SLIEVE MARTIN, ROSTREVOR, COUNTY DOWN
3-4 OCTOBER 2015

Red Bull is delighted to announce that Red Bull Foxhunt will return to Northern Ireland this autumn from 3-4 October 2015.

A challenging course, combining sections of existing downhill track with additional mountain and multi-terrain sections, Red Bull Foxhunt will begin atop Slieve Martin before descending through sections of trail, moorland and forest to the sprint finish in the grounds of Rostrevor’s Kilbroney Park.  The mountain biking event will feature over 400 bikers who will all try and beat the fox in a hunt with a difference.

From decorated pros to weekend warriors, the pack will tear down the three and a half miles of unforgiving downhill course encompassing wind bleached moorland, mud-spattered forests and hair-raising sprints, each adrenaline pumped biker tirelessly battling to cross the finish line before the advancing fox.

Red Bull Foxhunt will take place over 2 days, with qualifier time-trials taking place on the 3rd October and the event itself on Sunday, 4th October. Further details including registration will be announced on www.redbull.ie in mid August

In 2011, Wicklow’s Ballinastoe Woods hosted the inaugural Red Bull Foxhunt event, with former Irish Olympian Robin Seymour taking the ultimate honours and in 2012 Greg Callaghan burned up the field on the challenging Cavehill course overlooking Belfast. Despite having to chase down a massive field Gee ‘The Fox’ Atherton battled his way from the very back to finish in a highly credible third place!

In 2013, the event relocated to the picturesque Mourne Mountains in Rostrevor, County Down. First place went to Colin Ross who thundered into the finish line arena with a good lead ahead of last year’s winner Greg Callaghan of Dirt Norco, with Joe Barnes of the Dudes of Hazzard coming in third. The event took a sabbatical last year, but will return this October, bigger and better than ever!

Cleared for take off! Red Arrows to flypast the 2015 Metzeler Ulster Grand Prix

THE Red Arrows will bring a whole new meaning to the ‘flying kilo’ this Saturday after it was confirmed that they will perform a flypast over the Metzeler Ulster Grand Prix.

With an official time still to be confirmed, the flypast will take place in the afternoon during a short break between races, and with sunshine forecast, fans are set to enjoy spectacular views of the world-famous display team.

Noel Johnston, Clerk of the Course at the Metzeler Ulster Grand Prix said: “To have the Red Arrows fly over Dundrod will be fantastic. It’s not often that you get such an exciting opportunity and I’m sure it will be a real treat for the fans.

“It will be a great addition to race day and our tribute to Doc John Hinds.

“We’re all thinking of him this week and with his dedication to road racing and work campaigning for an Air Ambulance in Northern Ireland, we felt that dedicating the flypast to ‘Delta 7’ would be a fitting gesture.

“The Red Arrows are one of the few things faster and louder than a factory Superbike so make sure you don’t miss it. We’ll also have a full programme of racing for fans to enjoy, so there’s no reason not to be at Dundrod this Saturday.”

Entry wristbands to the Metzeler Ulster Grand Prix cost £25 per person, while entry is free for all under 18s accompanied by a paying adult.
